We have been discussing how we are all different and unique as part of our school assemblies and school Charter. We are drawing self portraits to express our own appearance and personality traits and they are looking fantastic!

On Friday we all started to create a beach collage inspired from Silver Sand beach in Aberdour. We started by painting the sea using paint, then positioned little scraps of paper carefully on to our paper to look like sand. Next week we will add our own flip flop design and starfish. Everyone worked well together and used creativity and super collaboration.

We had a fun afternoon session with Limelight music. They are here for 16 weeks and today was amazing! We started off with a few drama and singing games before learning a few notes on the Djembe drum. Lots of meta- skills in the session, including creativity, communication, collaboration and we are very excited for our future sessions.
This week as part of our Outdoor learning, we had fun decorating our journey sticks. We used a variety of collections from outdoors, arts and crafts and memorabilia from home. We worked together to share ideas and collaborate before getting creative! The next step is to share our journey sticks with the class reflecting on achievements, memories, challenges and growth experiences they have had this academic year.

On Wednesday, P1-3 explored the importance of using our voice to stand up for fairness. Building on our Health and Wellbeing topic of relationships, we discussed how we should treat others – with kindness, respect and inclusion. We read the book All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold to help us understand the importance of celebrating diversity and equality. We had a thoughtful discussion about what fairness means and how we can speak up when we see someone being treated unfairly.

We created posters for a competition on the theme, ‘The Power of Our Voice’. We used our collaboration and communication skills to work together in small groups to create the poster and share our ideas.
Here is what we have created so far:

On Monday, Primary 1-3 explored Scotland’s diverse landscapes. Using Google Maps, we discovered famous landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and The Kelpies. From there, we explored the rich variety of Scottish Landscapes, from the Highlands to the familiar features of our own local area. We used the 3D function to help highlight the geography of the land.

As a class, we compared the different landscapes, identifying the key features such as mountains, hills and rivers. To bring our learning to life, we created maps of our local area which was a fantastic way to connect geography with the world around us!

Today we were lucky enough to host Craig Andrew Mooney, the author behind ‘The Rebel of Time’. It was a great experience to ask Craig our questions and hear a little extract of the book from the person behind the words.

Craig shared with us his inspiration behind the main characters and shared a fascinating insight in to the writing process. Everyone was captivated and participated in hands on writing exercise guided by Craig. Pupils had the chance to experiment with writing and illustrating in pairs, exploring their own creative ideas.

This is a great way to kick off our literacy book study and plant the seed of aspiring authorship in our pupils.

After our outdoor learning session yesterday, we used our ideas to inspire our writing in IDL. We started with a basic poem starter, to help us write our own version using rhyming pattern.

Today we were re-visiting and practising creating a set of equal fractions. In order to identify equal fractions we used pictures and models, our timestables and the fraction wall. We enjoyed playing some fun fraction games too.
