Highlights from our Winter Fayre preparations today! We are all very excited to showcase our Christmas themed games and raise money for our school.

Today we started to design our Fayre game thinking about our theme, decorations, the title , goal, players, rules and materials we will need to collect. We also sketched our game and discussed prizes! Again lots of the Woodmuirps skills were visible today including communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

Today we started our new term 2 topic where pupils voted for a Christmas Enterprise theme. Lots of great discussion resulted in everyone choosing to create a game for our winter Fayre . Lots of skills were visible in our random groups such as integrating knowledge and skills to foster critical thinking, collaboration and communication. After looking at our key question, we had a busy brainstorm session focussing on our end product. Next we will move on to the process and how we will create our game using the materials we have in school. This is is super exciting and we can’t wait to showcase our games!

Today in creativity hour we practised a different technique using various brush strokes with watercolours. We were inspired by the artist Monet and his river paintings. Once we painted the sunset we then painted the reflection using warm colours in long strikes. After our paintings dry we will paint on the city scene in dark grey with the reflection in the water. We cant wait to see the finished result ready for our showcase next week!

Last Friday as part of our Art lessons we looked at the work of Eduardo Paolozzi. We tuned in to a live broadcast from The National Galleries of Scotland to lead this session. After exploring the artist a little we then created our own paper creations using only scissors with no glue or sellotape in sight! The creativity was exceptional with everyone helping each other, communicating politely and demonstrating critical thinking. We are going to follow this up in our creativity lesson this week using our French theme and transferring our art skills in to a new concept

Today we started our research on Famous French artists. We found out about his Early life, Impressionism, famous paintings and his later life. This involved lots of practice in our literacy skills and skills for life. After our research session we will begin to re- create one or two of his most famous paintings using different materials.

Today as part of Maths week Scotland, we worked outside as a team to collect natural materials such as leaves, pebbles, sticks and feathers. Back in the classroom we created designs such as repeated patterns and lines of symmetry using our own materials.

Today as part of our maths lesson we went out to the school playground on a pattern hunt. We found different tree barks, arrangements of plants, games markings, paving stones, brick walls and windows to name a few! Lots of collaboration and creativity!

Today we challenged ourselves to draw the Eiffel Tower as part of our creativity project. We were practicing using line as outline, drawing shapes and bold lines using our rulers. At the end we used Eiffel Tower grey to colour our drawings in and we added in a few clouds to the sky. The end results are fantastic and we are all very proud of our finished art pieces.
