1~2 Nim
Today we played 1-2 nim which is fun, challenging and rewarding. We were practising basic counting and arithmetic. We started with a pile of counters and on our turn, we removed one or two counters from the pile. You must take at least one token on your turn, but you may not take more than two. Whoever takes the last token is the winner. Lots of collaboration and communication taking place here.
Today we were very lucky to have a finance lesson from Claire at money advice Scotland, covering a brief discussion on the history of money and why we use it. Lots of super activities and discussion around coins and notes along with a focus on other types of common payments.
Today we worked together on a number problem called Dan the detective. We had several clues to help us find the number and all groups managed to find the answer very quickly. Through working in random groups and writing on vertical surfaces all children were engaged and working collaboratively.
Today as part of our maths lesson we started off with a Number Talk and the game, Biggest Roller: Taking turns to roll the dice and writing out the numbers in our boxes to find the biggest number. Lots of communication and collaboration skills.
Today in P4-P7 we started to read a range of descriptive texts, focusing on characters in our group novel and how they are portrayed. We started by looking at descriptive language and grammar using our Think Aloud approaches and then had the opportunity to describe another character of our choice.
A busy morning in Woodmuir completing our Sky scraper sundae art work. The children first of all had to draw their tall outline and design each of their sections with a pattern and colour of their choice. At the end they had to outline their drawing in black pen and cut around the drawing carefully. A super start to our art project this term involving drawing skills such as understanding shapes, lines and proportions.
This week in Woodmuir literacy hour we have been very busy working together on our new class novel Turtle Moon. Children were predicting what the book is about, reading character descriptions and designing their own book cover!
