Fruit Day

We are trying a new approach at snack time. Every Monday we are providing a selection of fruit to choose from. These are whole pieces of fruit and the child is encouraged to be as independent as possible when eating it. They peel it themselves and eat the skin if appropriate. So far so good ………. We will be asking everyone’s opinion on this initiative at the end of term.

Just to let you know………..

For your information, as promised, we have created a simple summary of some of the things we do in nursery to help develop literacy skills. You will soon find a copy in your child’s pigeon hole but here is a quick preview.

Just to let you know……

In Deans Nursery to develop our children’s language skills we have

  • a book corner
  • a daily story time
  • a daily opportunity to ‘write’ name as they register in
  • regular opportunities to talk about letters in names (especially the first letter).
  • opportunities to show how to make letter sounds correctly focusing on the sound it makes long, short, quiet or loud
  • regular opportunities to listen for syllables and rhymes
  • a writing table with a huge selection of writing materials

Stay and Play Dates

We have earmarked the next two Stay & Play dates for you. They are Wednesday 31st January and Tuesday 20th March. It is back to our usual practice of dropping off and staying for half an hour or so. It would be great if you could hang on until about 9.15/12.30 for an informal chat (our Parent Forum) with the nursery team so we can hear your thoughts and ideas about the nursery.

Help

We need help to make some very basic costumes for our children’s role play. We have new material but we need to turn it in to cloaks, tabards etc.
(The idea is that the children use their imaginations to make the costume fit their idea so the costumes need to be quite plain but versatile. Lots of Velcro! ).
If you are interested in helping, or know someone who could help, please let us know.

New Resources

We have purchased some lovely new resources for the nursery. Below are photos of some of the super story sacks of our favourite stories that we bought. This means we can role play the stories using puppets and props. It will let us have a deeper understanding of the message and allow us to practise sequencing and story telling. Can’t wait!
Thank you,as always, for allowing us to use your nursery contributions in this way.

Our Chosen Value

Thank you for taking the time to choose a value you think would be best for our nursery. It was a close run thing but the value you have chosen is respect.

We will take time next session to discuss exactly what this will look and feel like in our nursery. We know respect is a two way process so there will be lots of thinking about how we respect our nursery children as well as the importance of children demonstrating respect for adults, each other and our resources.
