Just to let you know………..
For your information, as promised, we have created a simple summary of some of the things we do in nursery to help develop literacy skills. You will soon find a copy in your child’s pigeon hole but here is a quick preview.
Just to let you know……
In Deans Nursery to develop our children’s language skills we have
- a book corner
- a daily story time
- a daily opportunity to ‘write’ name as they register in
- regular opportunities to talk about letters in names (especially the first letter).
- opportunities to show how to make letter sounds correctly focusing on the sound it makes long, short, quiet or loud
- regular opportunities to listen for syllables and rhymes
- a writing table with a huge selection of writing materials
Problem Solving
The children had to work together this week using cubes to solve the puzzle. They learned that teamwork gets the job done.
The Winning Buggy
After voting for their favourite the winning buggy is here. We unpacked it together and helped to set it up. It’s already been put to good use and the children love using it for role play.
Enterprise for the Christmas Fayre!
The children had a great time helping to make Snowman Soup and Reindeer Food for the Christmas Fayre! Well done boys and girls, you helped to raise £2800 for the school. Great job!
P6 Reading Buddies
We are very lucky to have some Primary 6 reading buddies come down to nursery on a Thursday to read and act out some stories using the schools new story sacks. The nursery boys and girls have been loving their story sessions! Thanks Primary 6!
Big Bedtime Read Launch Day
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We’ve been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and learning about healthy and unhealthy foods. The Caterpillar eats some unhealthy food and has a tummy ache but then he eats something healthy and soon recovers before turning into a beautiful butterfly.
Sorting
Children have been concentrating very hard this week sorting colours and shapes.
