P7 Sky Skills Studio Trip

The P7 class went on a school trip to Sky Skills Studio to create a 6 minute News Report called a ‘Healthy Lifestyle’.  The children had the opportunity to use camera equipment worth £60,000 to film everything and edit their final product into a professional report.  Some of the skills developed during the trip were communication, creativity, decision making and writing.

Handa’s Surprise

We have been finding out about life in Africa through the story of Handa’s Surprise.  It has been great fun learning to play the African drums, make African necklaces and do some African dancing.  It’s not as easy as it looks!

Planting and growing in Primary 1,

We have been talking about what plants need to grow and have planted a variety of seeds and broad beans.  We have set up experiments to show that plants need water, light and oxygen to grow best.  We looked at the hard shell around the beans, managed to peel it off to see the food inside but it was so hard we couldn’t make it all the way through to the little plant itself.  However, we are able to watch the transformation using our sprout houses on the windows. It is very exciting.

That’s Odd, Where’s Wally? and The Smartest Giant in Town

The Fantastics and The Cool Kids had a really busy morning with Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Stevenson.

First of all we did a recap of The Smartest Giant in Town. This was one of our Word Boost books and we did a check up on the important vocabulary we learned.

Here are our boost words – smart, comfortable, match, perfect.

Mr Thompson came into the classroom and we agreed that he looked smart. One of the boys said that his joggers and fleece are comfortable. Skye has a cardigan and pinafore that match. Mrs Stevenson’s gardening club is perfect.

We looked at some very odd pictures. We know that if something is odd it is a bit weird or strange. Can you see what is funny about all of these pictures? We had a good discussion and wrote a sentence to describe each one.

We also worked with Mrs Stevenson to start making up one of the jigsaws that we bought on our trip to Waterstones. There was lots of discussion about corners, sides, colours and pictures. We had a problem to solve as there were two pieces missing from the outside! What could we do to solve this we wondered? We decided we could check that we did have 100 pieces and we talked about the quickest way to count. It all worked out in the end!
