This week in literacy we have been learning all about magic e. There is no written tasks today.  However I’d like you to search your house/garden to see if you can find 4 things that have the spelling pattern a_e and draw them or take a picture and send them in. For example: gate

Fabulous fractions! Today we are looking at finding fractions of numbers! A little tricky but I’m sure you can do it! Remember you can used things to help you out  e.g. lego bricks.

Here are today’s activities

Reading/Writing:

L.I: To write expressively about a piece of music

Today in literacy, I would like you to listen to a piece of music then think, discuss and write about how this makes you feel.  This is called listen and respond. Listen to a song by the Scottish band, Runrig.

Now, consider how the piece of music makes you feel and the instruments you can hear within it. Does the piece of music remind you of anything? Do you the like the music? Pretend you are a teacher and read my examples.  Is one example better than the other?  Are they good enough to be a WAGOLL?  Did I forget a few things?

Example – Going Home:

No, it doesn’t remind me of anything

no, I don’t like the song. (I actually do like this song!)

I can hear singing and drums

the song makes me feel sad.

Example – Loch Lomond:

Yes, this song reminds me of trips to Loch Lomond with my family. (and my wedding)

Yes, I like this song because it is fast and slow.

I can hear bagpipes, singing and drums.

The song makes me feel upbeat and I want to jump about to it.

Good morning, we hope everyone is well. How strange was it to see the rain yesterday? I have enjoyed the sunshine but I know that the plants and grass were desperate for a good drink. That could could be something you look out for in your scavenger hunt.

At Uphall Primary School we use a range of learning programmes to support children as they learn new skills.

Literacy and Language

• We use the Vowel House and Colourful Consonant approach when learning phonics. This approach links colour, actions and shapes to help children learn new sounds and blend them together to read words.
• We use Oxford Reading Tree books to support the development of reading skills
• To support children to develop their detailed drawing and writing skills we use Foundations of Writing and PM writing.
• At Uphall we teach cursive handwriting throughout our school

Numeracy and Mathematics

• This session we have been using the Numberblocks to support children learn about how numbers are made
• We use a SEAL (stages of early arithmetical learning) approach to the teaching of numeracy skills using counters, dice patterns, rods, Numicon and Rekenreks to develop children’s understanding.
• We make the most of our outdoor space and real life contexts to support the development of mathematical skills

Health and Wellbeing

• At Uphall we use emotion works to support our children to identify and talk about their emotions using visual prompts to discuss feelings and possible solutions
• All of our children have identified trusted adults that they can talk to
• We use our outdoor space to build dens and explore nature
• Children participate in PE indoors and outdoors, learning and developing their skills
