Term 1 Highlights

In term 1 P5 have participated in a variety of exciting learning experiences. Here are some of our highlights to date!

Farm Enterprise Workshop – We participated in a Food for Thought Enterprise Challenge. We learned how to make origami carrots with the intention of running a business. This included coming up with a farm group name as well as a logo. Roles were assigned within the farms to ensure success. We all got to take the chocolate coins we gained home to enjoy.

Class trip to New Lanark – To enhance the learning of our topic both classes visited New Lanark itself. We enjoyed the Annie McLeod ride, the 1820s school experience as well as a guided tour.

Authors Live (Roald Dahl) – Both classes met to watch and actively participate in an Authors Live event to celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl. We then held a stage competition to design and name a Scottish sweet.

Bibleworld – Both classes visited our local Academy to attend a Bibleworld workshop. There was a carousel of activities and the children were encouraged to go back in their free time.

Josh and Alisha’s Blog

Hi, we were looking at Guided Reading and Technology  this week. Here is our report.

Guided Reading

Freestyle Karate

Alexandra is reading a book called Agatha Parrot and the Mushroom Boy. It is about a girl called Agatha. She has a little sister called Tilly and a big brother called James that is very annoying. Alexandra thinks the book is really good because it is funny and really good to read.

Judo

The group is finding the comprehension challenge a bit hard but a wee bit easy. The group said they are getting some of the questions right but some wrong. They are doing their best to get them right and finish it.

Technology

In technology we were looking at design. We designed a ‘Go/Stop Sign’, we wrote down instructions of how to build a model and then we wrote a report. The report was to show how we got on and also showed what our next steps should be to make our model better.

What you need:

.1 kitchen tube

.2 sheets of scrap paper

.Paint green, red, black

.paint brushes

.Cellotape

How they made it:

first we got our kitchen tube and covered it in scrap paper. Then paint the scrap paper in black paint. Next get your other piece of scrap paper and draw two circles then cut out both circles and paint one red and one green. After that, cellotape both circles on each side and then cellotape together. That is your finished piece.

Our next steps for our model were:-

. To make it bigger.

. To make the green Go and the red Stop more visible at night.

Why don’t you go and try to design your own Go/Stop project and see what it comes out like.

Toys Investigation

This term we are learning about toys. We have been doing some investigation into different toys. We know that investigating is finding things out. We have found out that some toys are fluffy, some toys are made of plastic, some toys need batteries and some toys make a noise! We had magnifying glasses to help us have a closer look. Here we are being busy investigators.

P1 trip to the cinema

img_8301img_8303img_8382img_8384img_8385The children in Primary 1 were very excited to go on their first school trip.  Last Wednesday we went to Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  The bus journey was very exciting-especially going over the Forth road bridge.  The cinema was lovely-the old fashioned, squeaky seats were a real novelty.  Unfortunately we were unable to see the film due to technical issues with the sound!  The children did enjoy eating their snack in the cinema and the return bus journey!  Here’s hoping our next outing will be more successful.
