Spelling Fun!

Today we played with our spelling words. We worked in small groups and worked out ways to represent our words using pictures and images, this will help us remember how to spell our words correctly.

Here are some examples:

Word = goat

The word was split into go and at, the guys drew a traffic light for ‘go’ and a cat, with the ‘c’ scored out for ‘at’. Well done, really creative (the drawing is on the board!).

Word = Mummy

The image used was of an Egyptian mummy! Great imagination!

Word = retrain

The guys drew a picture of Reamass ( she said she felt famous!!!) and then removed part of her name leaving the ‘re’ and then added a picture of a train! Great work!

Word = rocking

What great imaginations this group had, they used the image of Rocky the boxer (complete with  boxing ring), they then removed the ‘y’ leaving the word rock. The next part of the word was represented with an ink bottle with the ‘k’ removed and a ‘g’ added.

Reflective reading in Primary 2G

We have been really enjoying trying some new ideas out in Literacy this week including a glitzy phonics disco and a reflective reading lesson on the farmer duck story.  The children have been acting out the farmer duck story, clucking and mooing along with the animals and having some great discussions retelling the story and talking about working hard and being kind.  The children have also been working really hard on their writing this week, using their sounds and common words to write words independently and using their feedback to improve their work.  Very impressed with your efforts Primary 2.  Finally congratulations to our first pupil for achieving 50 Dojos and getting a special Dojo certificate.  Keep up the all the good work Primary 2 and enjoy your weekend. Jigsaw Jumble in Primary 3

Primary 3 thought that doing a jigsaw would be far too easy – until they discovered that only one person in the team could actually see the picture on the box!

The team captains had to describe the picture and the rest of the children had to try and make up the jigsaw following instructions and listening for clues. The team captains had to think carefully and the others had to show some really good listening. There was great teamwork on the go and it was interesting to see how the different teams tackled this activity.

The children enjoyed making up the jigsaws so much that they wanted to carry on after break and lunch!

Here they are showing some great teamwork. Well done Primary 3!

A Hilarious Day in Primary 3!

One of the Primary 3 pupils described today’s literacy activity as “hilarious”!

The children have been listening to Esio Trot with Miss Mack. Mrs Sutherland decided to give them a challenge and they had to find all of the silly words in a part of the story. They then had to explain why the words did not make sense. For example, did Mr Hoppy really grow flowers in a teacup and did Mrs Silver really have a pet squirrel called Bertie?!

There was lots of laughter in Primary 3 but also some very good explanations about why the new story didn’t make sense!

Here we are working hard and having fun!
