Phonics – Why are some letters different colours?

Some parents might be wondering why some of the sounds your child is learning are written in different colours.

Consonants are presented in different colours depending on what part of the mouth they are made with.

Red – consonant sounds that are red are made with the lips, for example, “m”.  Pink is used for quieter mouth sounds, like “f”.

Blue – consonant sounds that are blue are made with the tongue (blue – because of the veins on the tongue), for example, “d”.  The letter “t”, for example, is light blue because it is a softer sound.

Yellow – consonant sounds that are yellow are made at the back/roof of the mouth. Imagine you have to shine a torch to see this part of the mouth.  Some yellow letters are “h”, “c” and “k”.

Green – these are sounds made with the cheeks, like “j”, “sh” and “ch”.

“x” – is yellow shaded with blue as “x” is made from “k” – yellow + “s” – blue.

Click on the links to see a list of all letters in their corresponding colour and a picture of the mouth with the different colour parts and some of the different sounds.

Vowel sounds are black because they are made with the middle of the mouth (like a dark tunnel).

P6B Afternoon Tasks ICT / Drama

Continue to develop your touch typing on the following BBC bitesize link. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zf2f9j6/articles/z3c6tfr

Last week you completed Level 1 and 2 for ICT. This week please complete Level 3 and 4. This game is easier on a laptop / keyboard. It was slow when I tried on my apple devices.

Once you have completed Level 3 and 4, try to type some notes of your own using the touch typing approach.

Finally enjoy a touch typing game we have all experienced in class before – Typing Attack. https://www.typinggames.zone/typingattack

Touch typing is an essential skill in the world of work so make sure to try your best.

Expressive Arts – Drama – 31st March 2020
Design a set, using the word document attached, for either your favourite book or film. Choose only one particular scene from the book / movie. For example, I might pick the graveyard scene from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Harry and Voldemort have their first duel.

Click on the following link for some interesting suggestions about set design. It provides information about lighting, use of space, props etc. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z39x34j/revision/1

Set DesignRemember our set design experience when creating the set for our Japan assembly. Include a key, props and where the audience will be positioned.
