We have worked on a variety of tasks in class this week. We have sorted out emojis into sets, made 2D shapes using skipping ropes, discussed how we can make numbers in different ways using our fingers and made lots of different shapes using squares. We learned that completing maths tasks well involves team work, thinking carefully, not rushing and having a go-even if it seems tricky. Nobody will make fun of us for trying our best-we have the confidence to have a go. The story of Giraffes can’t Dance helped us understand what it means to have a Growth Mindset.

Primary 1 Photographs
The Courier photographer will be in school on Wednesday this week to take class photographs of the new Primary 1 pupils. Remember your school uniform and your biggest smile!
The Daily Mile in Primary 1
The boys and girls in Primary 1 have had their first chance to take part in the daily mile. We looked at a film of some other boys and girls taking part and we decided that it looked like lots of fun! We had a discussion in the class about exercise and we know that running and walking and being in the fresh air are good things to help our little brains.
We will try and go out every day, and the exciting thing is that one of us will have Mrs McKay or Mrs Sutherland or another grown up as our walking partner. This will be a good chance to chat to our new teachers and we can find out more about each other!
Look out for some photographs which Mrs McKay has taken.
There is some information about the daily mile here , and you can ask us about it too.
How Long is a Piece of String? Just Ask Primary 1!
The Primary 1 children will be bringing home pieces of string this week. More interesting than it sounds!
We are hoping that you will keep these until the very end of Primary 1, then show the children how much they have grown up during the year. The children think they will get bigger or taller or longer. Let’s find out in June 2018!
Welcome to Primary 1! How Exciting!
Mrs McKay and Mrs Sutherland are very much looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday morning boys and girls. What an exciting day for you and your families as you start your adventure through school. We have lots of fun things planned for you and we are looking forward to getting to know you all. See you in the morning!
