P1 Home Learning Thursday 4th June

Good morning everyone. Here is what we would like you to work on today. Please also see plan for more details.

Literacy

Writing a set of instructions

· We would like you to write your own set of instructions for planting seeds You should use words like first, then, next and finally at the start of your sentence for each instruction.

· For example – First put some soil in a pot.

· Miss Mackay will post some photos of her planting seeds for you to follow. Photos to come today.

Numeracy

· Esti-mysteries

Use your knowledge of numbers to solve the problem, use the first recording sheet to record your estimates-it might be easier to cross off the numbers as you read each clue (this very quickly helps to reduce the range of possible numbers). If you would rather not print the recording sheet the numbers could be written into the home learning jotter instead.

Perhaps you could create your own game of estimation bullseye

(all you need is a glass or cup, some small objects e.g. buttons, lego, marbles, etc and a partner)

  1. Good morning everyone, I have added a separate post showing the photos I took when we planted sunflower seeds at home recently. Have a good day. Mrs McKay

  2. Arlo loved the mystery number task this morning and he was very excited he managed to get the right answer, definitely something he’d like to do again.

  3. Absolutely Miss Mackay-we’ll add it to our list of things to do. So glad he enjoyed it, definitely helps get the brain thinking! Mrs McKay

  4. Hello 😁. Archie enjoyed the mystery number task as well, and he eventually had the right answer too. He was very excited! He did very well with his writing as well, I’ll send a photo over by email. We started this morning with Mrs Grenfell’s PE task, I think I did more than Archie, and with a special 8kg weight for some of it!
    Hope everyone is well.

  5. Got your email and photos-the boys have grown and look very happy, it’s a very cute photo. He’s doing a super job with his numbers and writing too-tell him I say a huge well done. Enjoy your afternoon-the sun is definitely trying to come out!

  6. Hi Mrs McKay,
We’re able to view and work through the mystery number power point, but we can’t get the answer to ‘reveal’. Is there another way I can look this up for Harris so that he can reveal the answer himself?
He enjoyed the seed planting exercise. I’ll email over some photos. Hopefully they’ll come through to you this time.
Also I’m looking for some recommendations for new reading material for him. Do you have any recommendations for a particular series?

    Thanks
    Lisa

  7. Thank you all for the emails, pictures and feedback today. We’re glad the activities have been successful with our wee ones.
With regards to revealing the esti-mystery answer I click on the red ‘reveal’ box the answer appears (if it doesn’t work the answer is 17).
In terms of reading, we would have been using Oxford Reading Tree with the children. By the end of P1 some of my children would be working around stage 4 or stage 5. You can have a look through the books online using the Oxford Owl website and see what he manages to read and shows an interest in.
Hope this helps, if not please get back in touch either on the blog or through the school email.Mrs McKay
