P1 Home Learning 23.03.2020

Monday 23rd March

Good morning everyone, we hope that you have had a nice weekend.

Here is what we would like you to work on today. Please also see the timetable sent home in your learning pack for more details.

Literacy

  • Our new sound today is ‘sh’.

Say the sound, can you identify which part of your mouth you use to make the sound? (note for parents it is made with the flat centre of the tongue and is a green colour)

  • Can you think of any words that use the ‘sh’ sound?
  • Does the ‘sh’ sound come at the start, the middle or the end of these words?
  • Slide some sounds together to form words:

ship, shop, shed, shut, sheet, sheep, shell, shelf, shark

  • Now write these words and draw a picture to match (extension activity-write sentences containing the words)
  • Videos to look at:

Numeracy

  • To help you with your counting you could make your own counting stick or pick one of your soft toys to be a swinging counting buddy  (just like Mrs McKay’s counting monkey).
  • Create your own linked fact families for numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5 (you will be able to write 2 addition and 2 subtraction stories for each number (apart from 4) just like we discussed when we made our number robots).

Get active! If you can, go outside.  If you can’t, try using one of our suggested sites.

  1. I might look daft here but, see the fact families… is it that we have to use numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 to make fact families? E.g. 1+2=3 or just use them in it e.g. 4+6=10?

    Thank you

  2. Hi Ashley,

You are right with your first suggestion. So… 1+2=3, 2+1=3, 3-1=2, 3-2=1. Stick to the numbers to 5 for now.

Hope this makes sense and things are going well. Miss Mackay

Morning, not at all-good question. What we are hoping the children will do is create 2 addition and 2 subtraction problems using 3 numbers so you could use 1+2=3, 2+1=3, 3-1=2, 3-2=1. So that the sums are not too large it’s easier to stick with numbers 1 to 5 initially. Hope this helps.

  4. Thank you very much ladies! This solved my troubles lol. Not sure if I was just overthinking it.

    Ashley
