Some of our learning last term in P1

Remember remember the 5th November!  We found out who Guy Fawkes was and what he tried to do.  We shared our experiences and opinions about fireworks.  We also talked about the dangers of fireworks and how to keep ourselves and pets safe.   We created a list of words to describe fireworks-how we feel, what we see, what we hear and had fun making our own fireworks and bonfire night pictures.

We had an unexpected visit from author Tony Bonning and enjoyed listening to his version of Cinderella and Stone Soup.

Maureen, who works for West Lothian museums, brought in a variety of old toys to help us learn more about toys from the past.  We shared our knowledge of toys and could compare the differences with toys we use today.  Some of the toys were quite difficult to operate-we had fun trying to make them work!

As well as continuing to count forwards and backwards, being able to recognise odd and even numbers and adding 2 numbers together we also learned about shapes.  We can name and describe simple properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Here are some of our shape monsters.

We have been using our Jolly Phonics sounds and common words to begin to write simple sentences on our own.

Having fun creating our own toys!

Watching the pantomime in school-getting excited for Christmas!

We had a great time at the Christmas sing-a-long.

Helping the grown ups get into the festive spirit at the Cake and Carols concert.

Christmas arts and crafts

Our fantastic P1 Christmas party.  You all behaved so well and had lots of fun joining in with the dancing and party games.  We had a visit from Santa too.

We hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas and wish you all a healthy and happy 2018.
