Term 1 learning in P1M

We are excited to share our learning in P1M.  We have made new friends and have enjoyed getting to know each other. The pictures below show just some of the things we have been doing!

Getting to know each other and sharing our favourite things using our Marvellous Me boxes

One of the first stories we read together was called ‘Don’t Eat the Teacher’ and we made sharks from paper plates and discussed what would happen if Sammy the shark ate Mrs McKay!

We went on a Seasons Hunt and created pictures using the objects we collected outside.

We are developing our scissor skills.

We have talked about how to hold a pencil as lots of children were using a more awkward grip,  since the start of primary 1 we have been encouraged to use our froggy legs to hold a pencil correctly and are trying our hardest to use them in school and at home.

Learning to create our names in a variety of ways.

Completing our activities at our ‘Home Seats’

Group activities during Maths Week

This was our very first phonics sound-the first step to reading, spelling and writing independently.

We use our magic pencil to write our new sound in the air and have fun writing it on a classmates back!

We can use our phonics knowledge to identify initial sounds in words

We went on a sound hunt outside in the nursery garden-we were looking for things that start with ‘p’

We had great fun making pirate puppets and playing with the pirate ship.

Treasure maps were being created at the writing table too.

Playing is a big part of learning in Primary 1.  It helps us work together, share the equipment, take turns, follow the rules, use our imagination, develop creativity and have fun!

We learned about feelings through various stories including The Rainbow Fish, The Smartest Giant in Town, The Highway Rat and Sharing a Shell.

We talked about different feelings we have experienced and how we show how we feel, we made flapping puppets to show different feelings-can you guess which emotion is being shown?

Various stations to develop our understanding of numbers and develop our counting skills.  The tennis ball monsters are very popular! Ask us what is inside.

We are learning to write numbers to 10 correctly too.
