Mrs Wassell’s P3 Daily Update 3.6.20

Good morning Primary 3!

How are you getting on with the tasks on your learning grid? Remember that you can visit Sumdog to work on your spelling and maths skills.  The Sumdog challenges that we have set will help you to build on the same skills as the tasks in your grid.

Literacy

I know that we have lots of Harry Potter fans in Primary 3.  Did you know that JK Rowling  released a new book last week??  It is called  ‘The Ickabog’.  She will be releasing a few chapters at a time, completely free and accessible online, over the next 7 weeks or so.

To read The Ickabog, click here.

J.K. Rowling is also looking for children to illustrate her new book!  She is running an  illustration competition for the book for children aged 7-12. If you win, your illustrations could be printed in the book in November!  There are details on The Ickabog website here.

Maths

Today we have some problems for you to solve.  Send us an email or let us know in the comments section how you get on.

Non-Screen Challenge

Lego Zip Line

You will need string or wool for this task.

Using Lego or a small toy, create a zip line to help it travel across your garden/room.  Can you make it go faster/slower?  Have you got anything around the house you could use to make your zip line super long?

I’d love to see pictures of your zip line!

Mrs Docherty Health and Wellbeing Happiness Day 2: 3.6.20

Good morning. Happy Wednesday. I hope your week is going well and you are all managing to continue to make special memories along the way.

We are continuing our happiness activities today with some more special fun filled activities to do as a family.

Our first activity today is to GIVE A COMLPIMENT CARD:

This is a lovely activity and one which will not only make you feel good but also someone else feel good too. Compliments are a lovely way to connect with someone and show them admiration. Try out the little activity below and please let me know how you get on and if someone has paid you a compliment. I have also added a link below the picture if you would like to get the printable version to make a pack for all of this week’s activities.

The second activity today is INTERVIEW A FRIEND:

In my previous posts I have spoken about friendships and the importance of these especially at this time. But how much do you really know about your friends? Finding out more about each other is a great way of building up friendships and here’s a little activity to help with this.

See if you can find out something new about your friend that you didn’t know before.

Please try these activities out and as always let me know how you get on.

Have a wonderful day everyone and be happy,

Mrs Docherty

Mrs Wassell’s P3 Daily Update 2.6.20

Good Morning Primary 3. I hope you had a lovely day yesterday. How are you getting on with your weekly grid? I have posted the link below for easy access.

Core Grid Week 9 P3

Literacy

As part of your Literacy tasks this week you were asked to write a description of what you see, hear and smell when you were out a walk. Here is a short description of a walk  I had to a waterfall beside my house.  Hopefully  it will give you some ideas for your story.

I see bubbling, rippling water and fluffy sheep. I hear rushing, cascading water over the rocks. I smell beautiful, colourful flowers.

See if you can think of 3 or 4 things for each sense and remember to use capital letters, full stops, exciting adjectives, conjunctions and challenge yourself to try and write in paragraphs. Good Luck!

Numeracy

We are looking at multiplication and division this week. Why don’t you play this game outside. Multiplication hopscotch. Challenge yourself to a game of hopscotch, multiplication hopscotch that is. Draw hopscotch squares number them 2 to 24 then get someone to ask you a multiplication sum from the 2 times table and see if you can hop to the answer. You can then change the numbers for another times table. Get some fresh air while skip counting and hopping!

Spanish Art

Click on the link below to hear some Spanish words and see how to make a Picasso mask.

Non- Screen Task

Get Building! You could build a lego model or a tower out of playing cards or anything else you may have in the house. You could take a picture of this and post it on your one note profiles.

Have a lovely day.

How are you getting on with your Sumdog Spelling challenge?

Please note: There is also a sumdog number challenge for Maths which has been set for the P1 children in our class, you do not have to do this one (but if you do want to complete a number challenge click on the challenge for the P1s and I have set  Sumdog to choose relevant skills for your stage).

Literacy

Let’s enjoy some Scots language today.

Watch and listen to ‘Fireworks aff the Castle’ by Matthew Fitt.

There are three videos on this link. I would recommend the second one because some of the words from the story pop up on your screen.

What Scots words were in the story? Try saying them yourself!

Mathematics

Today let’s use our hand span as a unit of measurement. Take a look at the picture to show you what your hand span is. Now go and measure your bed using your hand span. An example is my bed is equal to 12 hand spans long.

Have a lovely day everyone,

Mrs Currie

How are you getting on with the literacy task of rhyming words this week? I have found a video to help you learn more about rhyming words. There is a little challenge in this video because you need to think of rhyming words too.

Literacy

Today is set to be one of the last really hot and sunny days for a while. Somewhere in your garden, or in your house, can you create a reading den? Put something nice and comfortable in your den to sit in and maybe some of your favourite soft toys too. Spend some time relaxing in your reading den and read one of your favourite stories to your soft toys. It doesn’t matter if you can’t read all the words, use the pictures in your book to tell the story too. Have fun!

Numeracy

A sumdog challenge has been set for you. This challenge is called ‘Numbers’. The skills set in this challenge will link in with activities from our learning grid this week about missing numbers and ordering numbers too. The challenge will begin at today and finish on Thursday evening. Have fun!

Mrs Docherty Health and Wellbeing Happiness Day 1: 2.6.20

Good morning everyone. What an amazing spell of weather we have had bringing some happiness and sunshine to our lives. Our theme for this week is Happiness and so on this positive note we will share some feel-good ideas to try with family, friends and on your own. These will help you to explore what happiness looks like and how we can start our days on a happy note in the simplest of ways.

To start the most important thing is to ask ourselves is what makes us feel happy. Think of people, places and activities. There is no right or wrong answer as it is personal to each and everyone of us. You and your child can write these down or draw them in a little happiness journal. Now really think of the top three things that makes you feel happy. This is a great start for our happiness activities.

As we all know life can be busy and sometimes we don’t realise we have not stopped for a break or indeed had a break to stop and think. One way to help this is to start your day the mindful way. I have included an image below for you to help with helpful hints on how to do this. Instead of on your way to school or work at the minute we could use our daily walk as a way of being mindful about what we can see, hear and smell.

50_ways_download_-_start_your_day_the_mindful_way

Use your happiness journal to record some of the things you could see, feel, smell and hear when completing some of these activities. Did you notice something you have never noticed before, did you hear a familiar sound that you had taken for granted?

Let me know how you get on with this activity and over the coming days we will continue to explore more activities and ideas to help boost our happiness.

Have a lovely day,

Mrs Docherty
