Our week began with 2 P7 boys cooking their award winning egg and ham pie with the children. The children had a great time preparing and weighing the ingredients and the best part was the tasting. Thank you so much to Lewis and Lucasz you two are stars of the future!!
We also began a Big Garden Birdwatch this week. The children made bird cake and bird houses for our garden birds. We have tick sheets and an iPad beside the window to record birds that visit us.
The weather was so cold during the week that we decided to go out and look for signs of Winter. I think we lasted 15 minutes before coming back in, but everything was covered in the most beautiful crisp frost.
The week ended with a celebration of a very important Scottish man, Rabbie Burns. The children discussed his life and who he was, we then listened to some of his music and tried to keep the beat. Some children made the Scottish flag to symbolise this event.

We made a topic plan so that we can start our adventures with Hamish.

Then on Tuesday we had our P.E with Miss McCormack and we were doing our solo gymnastics routines that we had written down in our jotters from last week. We peer assessed each other, focusing on skill, technique and performance. We also (in partners) did a fact file on someone related to Mary Queen of scots. Then today on Friday, We had our active themed assembly by the house captains, and we were just finishing off some unfinished tasks.

For our topic this term we have been learning facts about some famous Scottish people from history. The people we are finding out about all have links with Livingston (places or buildings named after them). So far we have learned about Sir Walter Scott; who was a famous Scottish writer, the names of the streets in Dedridge are all taken from people or places in his writings. And we learned about Saint Margaret; one of our local High Schools is named after her, she was a very kind and caring Queen in Scotland. Look out for our future blog posts where we will share the next historical figures we are learning about.
In numeracy we have discussed the “Commutative Law”, we sometimes call them “switchers “as it is a little easier to say! This law says that when you add or multiply numbers you get the same the same answer if you swap the numbers round. For example,
3 + 4 = 7 4 x 2 = 8
4 + 3 = 7 2 x 4 = 8
We have been building and drawing arrays to show this, try drawing an array at home for the following number story,
4 x 3 = 12 = 3 x 4
Just a reminder that our PE days are back to normal next week, Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you for your cooperation this week with the change of day.
Welcome to our Weekly blog. We have had lots of fun this week!
We were very lucky to be invited to Dedridge PS to watch a production of ‘Pondlife’ which was all about friendship and bullying.
‘It was not what I thought it was going to be, it was better!’ – Maliha
‘It was very very very fun and I enjoyed it A LOT. I would rate it 100/100!’ – Aaron
‘It was good and I really liked it. I learned that you should always be nice to other people!’ – Morgan
We have been using our imaginations to write a story about our own made up food-animals which took place in our creative settings. We had to make sure our story had a clear beginning, middle and end and that our character was faced with a problem but also had a solution.
We have been learning some Scottish poetry with Mrs Smith. We learned ‘a dug a dug’, ‘To a moose’, ‘The snowman’, ‘Three craws sittin on a wa’ and lots more.
We have been working hard to put together our P3-P5 show which is something not to be missed.
In maths, we have been trying out a new interactive quiz game called kahoot. We all got a controller (netbook/ipad) and answered maths questions against the clock. It was great fun and caused a healthy level of competitiveness in our classroom. We can’t wait to use it again.
Congratulations to Levente for being awarded our praise postcard this week for hard work and a great attitude towards learning. Well done!

On safer internet day we will be having two assemblies to talk about how to be safe on the internet.
Do not tell people online your name, address and phone number.
We will put posters around the school that will advertise ways to be safe on the internet.
Always ask your parents about things that pop up for your personal information and to play games over age like pegi 12 and pegi 18 games never play them without permission.
And if someone is cyber bullying you just leave the game or go on another game or just mute or ignore them.
You may be thinking the internet is a much better place, but along the way, you have to make a lot of choices. Like putting in your personal information, download apps 18+ or 12+, and clicking ads that says “if you click this button you will have a chance to win a trip to Disneyland Paris!
There is BIG difference between Cyber bullying and child predator I will tell you how.
Child predators are people that make a fake account to trick children to think they are the same age but they are not. So the victim (the child) share’s his/her personal detail + address and phone number. And a cyber bully. Is when a bully says horrible things to someone in the internet because they feel much braver and confident.
So every time a stranger talks to you and says nasty things talk to your mum or just say nothing or if an ad pops up, just click the little x on the right corner of the screen so you can get back to your game or whatever you were doing. But if a bully says horrible things to you just talk to parents or the teachers at your school. So remember stay safe on the internet.:)
