P1 Update

Phonics

Kian: we learned the ‘t’ sound.

Harry: it’s blue because it’s like ‘s’ and comes from your tongue.

Reka: ‘t’ for tam.

Riyah: we learned the ‘a’ sound.

Mason: it comes from the tunnel. The tunnel goes to a house. The ‘a’ sound lives in the basement of the house.

Lucy: the ‘a’ sound is black.

Carly: the song is about an ant crawling on your arm.

We’ve also been blending sounds together to make words. We know that a black sound needs to go in the middle of the word (most of the time) so that it makes sense. Practise layering up your sound cards in your sounds folder to spell and read words e.g. cat, sat.

Can you listen out for the sounds we have learned in the video below:

Numeracy

This week we have been working on what numbers represent and showing our understanding that the numeral has a value with it.

Our first task was gluing pom-poms onto a piece of paper. We had to be careful to use the correct number of pom-poms. Did you spot these on our numeracy working wall last night?

Sophie F: we had to get pom-poms into glue and stick it on the paper. There was a number in the middle and you had to have that many pom-poms.

We completed a task where we listened carefully to an instruction e.g. draw 6 flowers, and add that detail onto our drawing.

Kian: you had to draw a number of things. You had to draw 4 clouds.

On Wednesday, we had different boxes with lots of dinosaurs in them but we only had to colour in a certain number of dinosaurs. We had to keep checking how many we had coloured in and how many still needed to be coloured.

Amelie: we had to colour the number of dinosaurs that the paper said.

We also completed a counting and recording activity.

Harry: we counted dinosaurs then wrote the number in a circle.

You could try some of these things at home using your whiteboard and pen from your maths bag.

Those who didn’t attend the meet the family event last night will be given the maths bag home on Wednesday in your child’s homework folder.

P5 Weekly News!

This week, P5 has been really fun!

We have been reading James and the Giant Peach and are at a really exciting stage in the story where James has met the giant bugs! We made posters to advertise the giant peach and developed our tint and shade skills to create a night sky and giant peach picture.

“I really liked doing the art and first we done the night sky and then the peach!” – Julia C

In maths, we have been learning about rounding numbers and estimating answers. We completed some written tasks as well as active tasks and our favourite activity was using the Kahoot quiz.

“Kahoot was really fun because you got to see your name, how well you were doing and how many points you had on the big screen!” – Wojtek

“Kahoot was fun trying to answer the questions! Some of them were tricky!” – Zoe

In PE, we have been developing our basketball skills. This week we were practising shooting balls into the hoop.

“I liked the part where you have to aim and shoot!” – Alan

In writing, we have been wrting a poem about James’ first encounter into the peach. We had to use a metaphor to help describe how he would have been feeling. We found this very difficult.

“I liked ding writing because it was fun and enjoyable!” – Lennon

“I liked doing the writing because we didn’t have to make the poem rhyme and I liked writing the ‘I wonder…, I worry and I hear…’ sentences.” – Harry

We are still enjoying taking part in free writing Friday. This week we had some stories, some comic strips, some recipes and some annotated diagrams.

Enjoy the long weekend, Primary 5 and Miss Diamond.

See you on Wednesday!

Aldi’s Kit for Schools

From 6th September to 3rd November we will be joining in with this event. Families can collect their Team GB stickers when they spend over £30 in Aldi stores. These stickers can be sent into our school office to be added to our school poster. We are aiming to collect 300 stickers which would earn us an exclusive free sports kit and would also enter us into a prize draw to win £20,000.

Please support us if you can!

Thank you

Primary 2 Blog

Primary 2 have been busy across the curriculum this week. We have been exploring shapes for mathematics and finding numbers that come before, after and in between up to 100. We watched The Lorax film and thought about things that were similar and different to the novel.

Some pupil highlights are below:

Scott – I loved playing in our play corner. I made train tracks really long and they were rectangles and triangles. We learned about shapes in maths.

Anna – We watched The Lorax. It was fun.

Freya – We got to bring our teddies to the movie and have some snacks.

Cordelle – We had to make a colourful ticket to get into the cinema in our class for the movie.

Michelle – We did writing about our book called ‘Who’s at the Door’.

Paul – We got to try our big play area with magnetic sand. I made loads of tools with it.

Lucy – We have free writing Friday jotters. I wrote about my little sister’s birthday today.

Roma – We made our brains in growth mindset and we learned to not give up and keep trying. A yucky brain means you’re not working hard and a colourful brain means you work really hard.

Joshua – Our Truffula Trees we made are now up on our window.

P7 Weekly News!

This week some of our highlights include;

We began to work on rugby in PE – we will be working outdoors for this block of PE. We learned about passing and catching – banana tig was a highlight, can you child explain the rules to you?

In our class novel we learned about Auggie’s genes and how he had a mutated gene. This led us to ask some questions about what DNA was and how genes work. We learned that we all have DNA in our bodies – every cell has DNA. The most interesting fact was definitely that we carry 99.1% of the same DNA as chimpanzees!

Another Friday meant another FREE WRITING FRIDAY session! We love getting the freedom to write what is on our minds and also having the class playlist on in the background.

In our writing session we made Wikipedia pages about August Pullman, the main character in our class novel – Wonder! We can’t wait to show our families at our Stay, Play and Write session soon!

Have a fab weekend!

Pupil voice;

Oliwia – I liked rugby (PE) because it was fun!

Finlay – My favourite part of school this week was learning about the DNA because I am in to dinosaurs and how they do the tests – and I’m really into science as well. I knew about DNA because of reading books and from Jurassic World.

Daniel – I liked writing about Auggie because I know lots about him.

Dominika – I was prefecting the upper area, it was good.
