P1 Mrs Davenport Friday 24.4.20

Today is about self-assessing; how have you got on with your learning this week?

Literacy

We will be using tickled pink and green for growth for self-assessing your writing. Let’s begin with your writing task this week.

I made some mistakes on my story which was posted on the daily blog post on Wednesday? Did you spot my mistakes?

A little green alien wif a fluffy tail went on A rocket.

2 mistakes – wif spelt wrong = with. Capital letter in middle of sentence A = a.

the rocket was fast and took the alien to the beach.

1 mistake – Capital letter is missing at beginning of the sentence. the = The

At the beach thi alien went in the sea for a swim

2 mistakes – Sight word spelt wrong. thi = the. Missing full stop swim = swim.

i love the beach”, said the alien, hee didn’t want to go back to the moon.

2 mistakes – Missing capital letter i = I. Sight word spelt wrong. hee = he.

Did you manage to include all of the success criteria in your writing this week? I have included the success criteria below for you to check.

Leave a finger space between words. Spells sight words correctly.
Use capital letters and full stops. Use awareness of sounds to sound out unfamiliar words.

Get a pink pen/crayon/pencil and draw a circle around 1 or 2 examples of each part of the success criteria you achieved in your writing. Using a green pen/crayon/pencil have you missed out any parts of the success criteria? Ask an adult to help you check that you wrote all your sounds correct way (no reversals) and formed letters such as y, g, f, j (letters where the tails comes under the line) correctly. Mark these with a green pen if you have not formed them correctly and write each 3 times to develop your formation.

I also completed my book review this week after I read ‘Painting the Loft’ story on Oxford Owl. Please find the link to my book review below to check you included the same amount of information as I did.

Painting the Loft Book Report

This week we are using ‘thumbs up’ strategy to assess our learning. Some of the tasks you have completed you will be thinking if you can:

Thumbs up/green – can do it and can move on.

Thumbs in middle/yellow: almost there, a bit more practise.

Thumbs down/red: need more help.

You can talk about this to someone at home or use the colours which represents each ‘thumb’ at the top of each piece of work you completed. Please let me know if there is something which are feeling ‘red/thumbs down’ for and I can provide you with extra activities to help support you with your learning.

How did you get on with writing the ‘j’ sound? Which ‘thumb’ would you show for writing this sound? Are you remembering to get the tail under the line? If you practised writing this sound in your jotter draw a coloured circle which responds to the thumb on your page to show how you felt you got on with this task.

Numeracy/Maths

I have attached links for you to self-assess your missing numbers worksheets for numbers to 20; numbers beyond 20 and for counting in 10’s.

Counting in 10’s Self Assessment

Missing Numbers Worksheet Week 3 Self Assessment

How did you get on with your number talks this week? I have put down some of my strategies for number talks this week below. Did you use any of the strategies I used?

For the 10 Frame above:

I saw 6 like a dice and then I counted on 7, 8.

I know that this is a 10 frame and I saw that there were 2 spaces missing. 10 – 2 = 8.

For the rekenrek above:

I saw 4 like a dice and then I counted on 5, 6, 7.

I wrote a number story: 5 + 2 = 7

For the dice pattern above:

I saw 5 like a dice and counted on 6, 7.

How have you got on with telling the ‘o’clock’ time? Show an adult in ‘thumbs’ how you found this task. What things did you find in your home that will tell the time? Here is my list:

Clock,

Oven,

Phone,

TV,

Laptop,

Kindle.

Health and Wellbeing

Did you draw a picture for one of your friends that you are missing at school? I am missing you all. The St. Ninian’s team made a special picture to show you all how much we are all missing you!

Have a lovely weekend P1.

P2 Mrs Currie Daily Update Friday 24.04.20

Good morning everyone,

Let’s start today with some mindfulness. Try this link for a fun and short guided mindfulness session:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf5K3pP2IUQ

Self-Assessment

It is Friday today so we are focusing on reflecting on the week we have had.

This week we will focus on smiley faces to assess our learning. Draw one of these faces next to each of your pieces of work:

Now look at the work you have drawn a smiley face on. Pick your favourite piece of work and write a positive describing word on your work, such as fantastic, great or super!

Writing

How did you get on with your writing task?

Use a pink pen and green pen and read over your story again and use the success criteria to help you mark your check your work.

Your success criteria for this week in writing was to:

*Use capital letters and full stops in every sentence.

*Write at least four sentences.

*Write an ending that solves the problem.

Now ask someone at home to look for any spelling errors in your work.   If you would like to practise any of these spellings use rainbow writing to rewrite the words.

Reading

Look over your reading comprehension activity answers with someone at home. Together, work out if there are any mistakes in your answers or if you can add any detail to your answers. If there is nothing to correct, you could try to write your answers in full sentences.

Numeracy

Here are the answers to the division questions:

Look at your answers and strategies for Number Talks. You were asked to find 3 different ways of working out the Number Talk. Now choose which strategy you think is the most efficient. The most efficient strategy means the strategy that is the quickest and easiest. Draw a circle around your most efficient strategy for each of the Number Talks.
Number Talks

As a reminder, next Monday morning I will post a new weekly grid for you.  Then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I will send out some daily activities to support or challenge your learning.  On a Friday we will have time to reflect and self-assess.

Enjoy the weekend.

MRS DOCHERTY POSITIVE THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Friendship: 24.4.20

At the end of our first week back in our final term we hope you have had a successful week of fun and learning. Please know you are all doing so well and we are very proud of you. I know we have loved being in teaching mode and in contact with you all again this week and following on from our positive song of the week we have appreciated all of your friendship. As I always say Thursday is such an important day to stop, think and reflect especially when we Clap for our Heroes. Some of the things I ask myself on Thursdays are:

What have I felt happy about this week?

What have I done to make someone smile?

What special memory have I made this week?

What has made me sad or worried?

Who helped me when I felt that way?

Most answers involve my family and my friends which again I know we will all be missing. So for today I am sending you all a special message to help you to know we are all here for you and for each other. So from all of us to you we are sending big hugs and a big thank you for your support, hard work and friendship.

And please remember:

Have a lovely day everyone and look after yourselves,

Mrs Docherty

Home Learning Grid

We are almost at the end of our first week back. How are you getting on with re-telling a story to someone at home? Remember to speak about characters, setting, the beginning, middle and end. Mrs Docherty posted the image below in a previous blog post. Use it to help you with re-telling your story.

Drawing can be a very relaxing activity. Here is a drawing you can try at home:

If you are having any difficulty with any of the home learning activities please remember to ask your question in the comments section below. We will try to answer your question as soon as we are able to.

Numeracy

Your Sumdog challenge focuses on number words. Write down the digit and matching number word in these cookie jars. This will help you to practise for your Sumdog challenge.

Literacy

Can you work out the mistakes in my sentences? Try to copy the sentences without mistakes in your jotter.

  1. thi dogg is really funnay.
  2. Mi favourite fud iz toast annd gam

Primary 3 Mrs Caskie and Mrs Keegan 23.4.20

Good morning Primary 3!  I’m really looking forward to sharing your learning today.  As always, do what you can and what suits your family circumstances.  Be kind, persevere and stay safe. Remember that we’re here if you need to ask any questions.

If you have time today, you might like to make a Sound Map. This is a lovely peaceful activity that you can do inside or outside.   First you find a spot you like and stay still for 5 minutes.    Mark on your paper all the sounds you hear.  How many sounds did you hear? Tell an adult what you heard and how it made you feel.

Home Learning Grid

I’ve posted the Core Grid here for you to make it easy for you to access.

Core-Grid-Week-3-Primary 3

How are you getting on with your fact file about an endangered sea creature?   Try to include  a title, key facts and a picture.

Literacy – Spelling

I have set up a Sumdog Spelling challenge for you to try this week, linked to the words which you have been learning.  Have fun playing the games.

Maths – 3D Shapes

Today you could go on a 3D Shape hunt in the house or when you are out for daily exercise.  See if you can find these shapes:

  • cube
  • cuboid
  • sphere
  • cylinder
  • pyramid
  • cone

You could always take a picture of your objects and pop it on your OneNote profile or draw a picture in your jotter.

I hope you have a great day.

P1 Mrs Currie Daily Update Thursday 23.04.20

Good morning everyone.

How are you getting on with your grid so far?

Remember that the sumdog challenge for ‘number words’ finishes at 3pm today. Lots of you have already finished or are close to finishing the challenge – well done!

Learning Grid

In the Health and Wellbeing part of the grid you were asked to try a new food.

Have you managed to have a go at this?

Sometimes when we try something new for the first time we can be very unsure if we like it or not, it can take trying a food more than three times to know for sure if you like it.

Two years ago I tried olives for the first time when I was on holiday, they have quite an unusual salty taste and I really was not sure I liked them.  However I then tried them again and I was really surprised that I found that I quite liked them.  Now olives are a real favourite of mine!

Numeracy

Our numeracy learning this week is all about the numbers up to 20 and/or up to 100.

Learning our numbers to 100 is very useful as we use numbers every day in our lives.  Some board games need you to know your numbers.  One example is snakes and ladders.  If you have this game at home challenge someone to play with you.

If you don’t have this game use this link here to download a snakes and ladders board (or you could even try to make your own board – remember it doesn’t need to go all the way to 100 if you cannot fit that in on a page).

Literacy

Have you listened to the story “Christopher Nibble” yet?  Try to use the wordboost words today when you are chatting with people.  Ask someone to help you keep a score of how many times you manage to use one of the boost words.  Can you beat 5?

Here is the video link for ‘Christopher Nibble’ if you haven’t managed to listen to it yet. The boost words you are listening for are – deep, imagine, protect, borrow.

Have fun!

MRS DOCHERTY SUPPORTING YOU TO LOOK AFTER YOU AND YOURS: 22.4.20

Following on from yesterday’s advice on how to look after each other during Lockdown I’ll keep providing further supports from the Glasgow Times article which I found so informative. Today’s focus is

Acknowledgement:

Children can find it difficult to recognise or share what their feelings are. It is important to talk about these with your child and help them to identify what they may be feeling and why. When doing this it is important to get your child to name their feelings. You can help with this by identifying the feeling for them if required. This can be done by saying: I can see you are feeling….

When you have helped them to identify their feeling you can work together to develop ways to make them feel better if their feeling is one of fear, or worry or anxiousness.

Maybe as a family you are finding calmness at this time  and that is important to recognise and spread too.

Some questions suggested that you could ask your child included:

What makes you feel calm?

How can you continue to keep in touch with friends and family at the moment?

Can you think of anything fun we can do at home today?

What is something you could you do for someone else today?

What have you enjoyed about today?

What made you feel proud today?

I will further support this on our positive thought for the week on Friday and also on Thursday’s mindfulness self-regulation focus.

Have a great day,

Mrs Docherty

P2 Mrs Currie Daily Post 22.04.20

Good morning, P2!

What did you do yesterday evening? In the early evening I was outside in the garden planting some seeds.  Have you ever planted seeds before.  I’m growing a selection of wild flowers.  I’ll keep you informed of their progress over the coming weeks.

Home Learning Grid

How are you getting on using your feet as a unit of measurement? Can you estimate/ guess one room in your house that is bigger and one that is smaller than your room? See if you were right by using your feet to measure those rooms. Here are the links needed for this week’s learning for quick access:
