P7 Weekly News

This week in P7 we created our new class charter. We considered the main themes in our school values and the UN rights of the child and decided that we would make our overall theme about respect as this makes it easy to understand rather than having lots of statements to learn and abide by. We have changed our wall display to ’emojis’ so that each child in the class is represented by one of their favourite emojis which they use on their phones/tablets etc. Our charter is also linked to Class Dojo so that we are very clear on when we are abiding by our class charter and when we are not (which is very rare in P7!)

We also started our new topic this week which is Democracy. We are very excited about this as for the first time in topic work we are working as a whole P7 group with the P7 children from P6/7 joining us. So far we have talked about the features of a democratic government and written a manifesto as if we were a leader running for a political party. We really enjoyed writing these as we were able to debate things like education, health and the environment which was really interesting.

Have a great weekend!

A short but busy week in P1D.

We had a lot of excitement in P1D last week. We had a letter delivered to us but it was not an ordinary letter. It came in a bottle! You guessed it; it was from a Pirate, Pirate Pete. He has invited us on a Pirate Adventure with him and his crew. We planned lots of different activities and discussed what we would like to learn about pirates during our adventure. We are so excited to get started!

We have been learning a new concept in Maths. We have been learning all about…wait for it… division!!! That’s right, division in Primary 1! We really enjoyed using toys and sweeties to help us learn about sharing equally and were very good at it.

Nursery News

Happy New Year from all the Nursery Team.

A warm welcome back to all our Nursery boys and girls and a special welcome to our two new children who have joined our AM session – Blake and Oliver. We hope you both enjoy being at St Ninians Nursery.

As part of our Values and Vision week we revisited our Nursery Charter and how we can help Nin by following the Nursery rules.  He was very impressed that the children could remember most of the rules. We have been concentrating on getting back into our Nursery routine and being able to share resources with each other.

Our learning focus for the next few weeks will be Winter and as part of our responsive planning we will be asking the children what they would like to learn within this topic.

Our Primary 7 Polish buddies continue to visit us twice a week to have a chat and find out what we have been learning in Nursery.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

The Nursery Team.

P1R are going to blow your socks off this year!!

Happy New Year to everyone, we’ve had a very busy start to the year in P1R!

In maths we have started a new topic – division. We have been learning how to share objects fairly and had great fun sharing out sweets and toys.

On Wednesday we received a mystery message in a bottle, we were very puzzled and came up with lots of suggestions as to be what it could be and how it got in our classroom:

Maeve thought it might be a letter from Trex, Ahmad thought it was a special letter, Angelina thought it was a letter from a pirate because that’s what pirates do!

When we read it we discovered it was from Pirate Pete Pigeon, he has asked us to join him on his pirate adventures and we accepted immediately. Here is the plan we made with all of our ideas.

In PE we started a gymnastics block of learning and teaching, this week we were focusing on travelling and balance.

As this week was Vision and Values week we spent a lot of time discussing our school values and what makes our school unique. The children selected one of the values to illustrate in their Learning Journal. We also made  a new class charter and used the theme of pirates to make a fantastic entrance display to our class.

In writing we had to think of how we were ‘going to blow your socks off in 2016’, there were some super ideas:

Oma is going to exercise more and become really fit.

Maeve is going to have the neatest handwriting.

Ahmad said we were going to be the best behaved class in the school ( I think we’re already that!!!)

Merry Christmas from P2M

On Monday we had PE with a difference. As the hall was being used for Christmas parties we transformed our classroom into a yoga studio and enjoyed some yoga. Our yoga followed the story of a dolphin who we had to help on an adventure. It was lots of fun.

Tuesday was so much fun and we all looked great in our Christmas jumpers. We also enjoyed our Christmas lunch too. All of our Christmas fun in the morning got us in the spirit for our party in the afternoon where we enjoyed some Scottish dancing, disco dancing, a snack and we even got to meet Santa. What a busy day! Have a look at the P2 Party post for some videos and pictures.

On Thursday we had great fun at the pantomime, it was the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and was very funny.

We are looking forward to our last day before the holidays tomorrow. In the morning we are having a Christmas sing-a-long where we will be singing Frozen’s ‘Let it Go’.

Have a lovely Christmas

Dress as your “dream job” was a huge success.  I really enjoyed chatting with children about their aspirations.  I was very impressed with the thought behind some of their careers.

In Science we learned the vocabulary SOLVENT, SOLUTE and SOLUTION.  And we are now all aware that melting and dissolving are different processes.

Something to think about!

If you have a salt solution (water with salt dissolved in it) can you separate it back into just water and salt?  How?

Christmas is almost here…

Next week we will be having our Christmas jumper day and Christmas dinner on Tuesday.  Our class Christmas party will be on Thursday afternoon, please remember to give your child a note if they are to go home to change for the party.  We also have to prepare a class Christmas song for our end of the year assembly, find the link below to our song and get practising.

We used some Spanish Christmas vocabulary to create our own Spanish Christmas cards.  If you want further practise with your pronunciations this is the website we used.

Next week we will wrap up our work on time.  We recapped our knowledge of analogue time and digital time.  Keep practising at home and in particular be working out time intervals from timetables etc.

Have a lovely weekend.

A class full of super stars in P1D!

We have had a very busy week in P1D. I am sure you would agree that we were Fantástico in our Nativity this week. We thoroughly enjoyed watching ourselves this morning on the big screen and were VERY enthusiastic when we were joining in with all the songs.

Our reading skills are coming on leaps and bounds, we have been working hard to put jumbled up sentences in the correct order by looking for key clues! Are you impressed?

We all have different aspirations in P1D and loved looking at each other’s choice of career today during the World of Work Day.

In maths we have been looking at doubling numbers. We had lots of fun playing a game on the smart board called ‘Hit the button’. Feel free to have a go!

Have a good weekend, Miss Diamond.

P.s. The Christmas countdown is on :)!
