Miss Lydon

Mrs Docherty Positive Thought For The Week: 29.5.20

Good morning as we approach another weekend and look back at what has gone we think of the word Friendship and realise that it has never meant so much as it means just now. As our Positive Song of the Week was I’ll be There for You we think about all of those whio have been there for us during th past 10 weeks and those who have supported us and each other in many different ways. The meaning of a true friend is summed up beautifully below:

A true friend is a friend who is always there for you. They standby you consistently both when you are present and when you are not.

Friendship can mean so many things to so many people but for us as a School, Friendship is one of our core values and one that is at the heart of everything we do and say. It is about support and kindness and this has not changed because we are not together. Indeed we have formed a stronger friendship as we all realise how important it is to be there for each other and how the smallest of things and the simplest of words can brighten up someone’s day or week. Just knowing that we are supporting each other and that we are always just a phone call or email away has meant we have been able to sustain and strengthen the bonds we have in our school community. As we continue to move forward and plan for the next stage please know that we are grateful to you and to your children for all you do to continue to make our school a special place to be in with special people to work with. Thank you.

Have a great weekend everyone and as always stay safe and look after each other.

Mrs Docherty

P2 Mrs Currie Friday Update 29.05.20

Good morning everyone.  It is Mrs Currie back today, thank you to Mrs Docherty for looking after our blog post yesterday.  Remember if you want to send me any examples of work or just to say hello use either the email address at the top of the weekly grid or the comment section on this post.

Self-Assessment

This week we are focusing on thinking about our learning over the week. Think about the questions and talk about them with someone at home or write them down.

  • What have I learnt?
  • What have I found easy?
  • What have I found difficult?

There has been lots of fabulous work going on with our Global Goals and RRS. Please remember to send your RRS work to Mrs Conway. brogan.conway@westlothian.org.uk

Literacy

Take a look at the success criteria and see if your writing has met each of them.

Now highlight or underline the parts of your writing that answer the questions below. If you have missed out one, you can up level your writing by adding it to your writing.

  • What will you make?
  • How big will it be? What will it look like?
  • What purpose will it serve?
  • Who will you invite to help you in this project?
  • What could possibly go wrong with it? What will you do to prevent this?
  • Where will your Lego creation be located?

Numeracy

The answers for the estimates will vary so I have just provided the actual answers and working.

I hope you have had a lovely week and that you have been enjoying the sunshine.

Mrs Currie

P1 Mrs Currie Friday Post 29.05.20

Good morning everyone.  Mrs Currie is back today, thank you to Mrs Docherty who looked after our blog post yesterday.  Remember if you want to send me any examples of work or share something you have done this week use the email address at the top of the weekly grid.

This week we are using The Fist Of Five to assess our learning.

Use this FREE Fist to Five poster to introduce a quick check ...

You can either show your score to someone at home or if you have recorded work in your jotter, draw a circle and put little lines coming out of it to represent your fingers.

I have completed the ai and oa spelling activity below. How did you do with this activity? What fist of five would you give for your understanding of the ai and oa sound?

I have shared my free writing story with you. I decided to write a story about swimming in the sea because it is one of my favourite things to do when I am on holiday. Can you spot any mistakes in my story?

I tried to include all of the success criteria in my story too:

  • A capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end of every sentence
  • Use at least one conjunction (joining word eg and, because)
  • Use at least one adjective (describing word eg a colour)
  • Make sure you form your letters correctly

Did you manage to include all of the criteria in your story? Show your fist of five for this.

Number Talks

I looked at the 2 jars for number talks and have shared my strategies with you. Did you use the same strategies as me or something different?

Counting on is a very good number talks strategy. This episode of numberjacks explains counting on well. Why don’t you watch it:

How do you feel about using the counting on strategy for number talks? Show your fist of five for counting on.

The weekly grid for next week will be getting posted this afternoon to allow parents time to prepare for the following week.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Currie

Happy Friday everyone!

This week we are using The Fist Of Five to assess our learning (five fingers mean you have fully understood your task and feel confident with the skill, four fingers means you are nearly there perhaps just a little more practise needed, three fingers you needed some support but then were able to do it, two fingers you needed support to do most of it, one finger you needed support and would still need support in the future with this type of task)

You can either show your score to someone at home or if you have recorded work in your jotter, draw a circle and put little lines coming out of it to represent your fingers.

Use this FREE Fist to Five poster to introduce a quick check ...

I have completed the ai and oa spelling activity below. How did you do with this activity? What first of five would you give for your understanding of the ai and oa sound?

P3 Mrs Caskie and Mrs Keegan Friday 29.5.20

Good morning Primary 3!  We hope that you have had a great week of learning and managed to enjoy the beautiful weather too.  Can you believe that it is almost the end of May?

Below are some tasks to help you review your learning this week. Remember to keep trying if you meet a challenge.  As the song says ‘It’s going to be a fantastic day!’

Of course, it wouldn’t be Friday without Free Writing!

What makes Free Writing Friday special is that no-one  is allowed to correct your writing. Your spelling and  handwriting don’t matter on Free Writing Friday. What matters is that it’s FUN. Spend  up to 15 minutes writing  or  drawing. You can write stories, or notes from any exciting facts that you’ve found,  or drawings, or comic strips, or ideas for films or little pictures of characters. You can  write about books you’ve read or films that you’ve watched. This is YOUR writing.

Literacy

This week we would like you to self-assess your handwriting task.  Use a pink pencil/ crayon to highlight words that you are especially proud of and a green pencil/ crayon to highlight words that you would like to improve.  Remember to look out for:

  • finger spaces between words
  • writing on the line
  • tall and small letters
  • lead in lines and joins

Maths

This week we have been learning about division.  Use the answer sheet below to traffic light your work.

spring division by grouping ANSWERS

Non-Screen Task  Barefoot Safari

Some people believe that walking barefoot can help your well being.  Create a sensory walk over 4 or 5 different surfaces.   Outdoor surfaces could include long grass, bark, stones, leaf litter, fir cones or sticks.  Indoors surfaces could include a blanket, icy water, bubble wrap, shredded paper. Focus on how it feels!  Send us a picture via email if you’d like to share your safari.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Good morning! I am so excited for the sunshine today. It’s meant to be really warm. I hope you have a good day.

How are you getting on with your health and wellbeing this week? I find Sports Charades really funny. Here is an activity to help with your mental wellbeing:

Let someone you love know how much they mean to you. You could draw them a picture, help them with something or phone them if you can’t see them just now.
