Good Morning I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend. We are missing you all and have been delighted to hear about all of the hard work you have been doing when learning at home.
Literacy
Spelling – ‘ ea’
eat, tea, sea, pea
leaf, read, meat, beak,
teach, peach, steam, beach
Choose 4 of the words to carry out spelling activities and write sentences.
Click the link above to play Funky Mummy ‘Bonds of Ten’. Click on the correct mummy to complete the number bond.
Music
Today’s music video is linked to our African Topic. Watch and learn about a variety of African style instruments. Think about what they are made from, how they are played and what they sounds like.
After watching the video you could look around the house for things that can be used to sound like some of the instruments that you saw or use recycled materials to design and make your own instrument.
Art
Here is an image of traditional African Jewelry made from beads. Some colours have special meanings. Look closely at the colours and patterns. They are very bright and eye catching.
Use the link below to watch a craft video showing you how to make an African style paper necklace. Use what you have around the house, paper, pens, coloured paper. Think about colour, shape and pattern.
Go on a rainbow hunt and find something indoors/outdoors for each colour of the rainbow. Then write the names of each item using your best handwriting in your jotter.
Maths
Continue practising your mental addition and subtraction skills. You could ask an adult to give you some sums or try this worksheet to help.
Learning Intention- To undertake a free writing task
Success Criteria – I can write at length about a topic of my choice
I can include my core targets eg. spelling, punctuation, connectives, sentence openers etc.
Free Writing Friday – What are you going to write about today? (Maybe a letter to someone you’re missing, another African fable, a poem, a recount of your movie night or VE Day party or anything else you choose.)
Odd one out: Remind them to listen carefully. Tell them you are going to list 4 things and they have to tell you which is the odd one out each time, ask them to explain their answer:
Work on partitioning with 5 using your 10 frame. Place 5 counters in the top row of the ten frame and then flash the frame with different numbers of counters on the bottom. Can you tell how many there all all together. Think about the sum too (5 + 4 = 9) (5 + 2 = 7) for example.
Enjoy your weekend primary 1 and I will see you back here on Monday!
