Good morning Primary 1!

Some learning ideas for today…

Literacy

Keep practicing reading and writing your sight words in your word tub.

Writing 

Today you could learn about imperative verbs, these are ‘bossy’words. Watch the short video. Pause before hearing the answer to questions to give yourself thinking time.

Now use the word mat to help you write two of your own sentences using an imperative verb, a ‘bossy’ word, at the start. Remember capital letters, spacing and full stops.

Maths

Activity from number grid

How many ways can you make the number eight? write all your addition sums down on paper. Remember to think about layout. (7+1=8)

STEM

Today’s challenge is about building a bridge. You could do this outside if the weather is nice.

Literacy –

Guided Reading Task

Carry out length activities and order from smallest to largest.

You can always try ordering number and money.

Try to log into sumdog and do an activity.

 

 

Art

Environmental Art with Ice.

Get a balloon or a small container and collect different natural materials from your garden. You could collect petals, grass, feathers seeds put them inside your balloon or small container then add some water. Put in the freezer overnight.

Get an adult to help you take off the plastic balloon or get your frozen art out of container. Take outdoors if it is nice and take a picture every 5 or 10 minutes, can you see all of the different colours and textures? You could make a few and create a display. Take a picture of your art and post on twitter, teams or email to your teacher.

Reading

Try selecting a fictional book (a story that is made up) and then reflect back and try to think about these questions…

Q1) who was in the story?

Q2) Where did the story happen?

Q3) Talk about what happened in order.

Draw a picture of your favourite part in the story. Include the title of the book.

Number

Number grid task

Counting in 2’s.

Practice passing the number with a partner counting in 2’s.

Listen to the song again, try to sing along.

Practice writing the number pattern (counting in 2’s) down on paper.

Use small items to help you count in 2’s, pasta, pegs, pebbles, Lego pieces.

Topic

We are going to start investigating the weather in Africa. This week I would like you to try keeping a record of the temperature in Africa and Scotland. By recording both we can make a comparison. Who do you think will be the warmest? Who will be the coldest? Who will get the most rain?

Literacy

Read spell write task card. Remember to take time with your letter formation and finger spacing between words.

Maths

Number grid activity

How many ways can you make the number 6? Record all your answers in your jotter using the correct layout for a long addition sum. (2+4=6)

Art

Today we are learning about the Ndebele Tribe and the artwork they produce.

Watch the short video to find out a bit about Ndebele art, there is also a power point link for more ideas. You can then use the last video to try designing your own Ndebele house.

Good morning.

Here are today’s activities.

Spelling- choose an activity from the grid.

Nouns- light, night, midnight, tonight, sight, might, right, bright.

Verbs- head, heavy, ready, read, instead, sweat, spread, breath, meant, dreadful.

Adjectives- new, few, chew, grew, blew, drew, flew, screw, threw, knew.

Good morning I hope you have all had a lovely weekend enjoying the sunny weather.

Literacy

Spelling –  ‘er‘ words

Choose 4 of the words to carry out spelling activities and write sentences.

Look out for any ‘er’ words in your reading book.

Practice measuring in cm.

 If you have a ruler or tape measure at home find 5 items around your house to measure.

 

Measure Hunt- try to find 2 items that you think might be 12 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm. Check with a ruler- did you estimate correctly?
