Primary 1 Thursday 14th May

Good morning Primary 1!

Ideas for today…

Literacy

Select a book from oxford owl reading Ebooks. Once you have read aloud think back to the story. Can you recall the main events in the correct order. Who were the main characters. What were they like? If it was a non-fiction book (factual) what was it about? share two things you learned from the book. And would you recommend it to someone?

Continue to work on ‘ai’ and ‘oa’ vowel sounds. Use the attached task sheets from Mondays blog or go back to your ebook and see how many ‘ai’ and ‘oa’ words you can find and record them in your jotter.

Practice your spelling words.

Numeracy

Select two activities from the number grid. Remember to use your dice and ten frame to play the games with someone at home.

Practice telling the time using o’clock and half past on a digital and analogue clock.

Topic

Continue your animal fact file.

Now you have chosen an animal that interests you and drawn and labeled a picture of it we are now going to discover more about it. Using these sub headings try to find out and write at least two sentences about…

What they look like. (think about their body, teeth/beak/, feet, tail, fur, patterns on their body, their size and weight?

Their habitat. Where they live. Tree, burrow, den, how do they make it?

What they eat. How do the catch it? when do they hunt, eat?

Are they endangered? If so, why? If not, how many of them are there?

You don’t need to do your research and recording all at once, you can break it down into small sections.

Take a look at the attached fact file to help you think about layout.

Seafield Primary

Good afternoon, I just wanted to let you know that River Life are holding a photography competition. They are looking for photographs of the River Almond so if you are out for a walk near the Almond perhaps you could enter a picture. It is not a picture of you just a lovely picture of wildlife or riverlife.

Resilient Rivers Photography Competition

We are also excited to announce our online Resilient Rivers Photography Exhibition! We are looking for photo submissions of the River Almond and River Avon that show how our rivers can still be beautiful despite the pressures that are put on them. They have been heavily affected by humans over the centuries through industrialisation, urbanisation, agriculture and pollution. If you take your daily allotted exercise down by your local river or burn there is a good chance that you’ll see signs of these impacts. The remains of the old weirs constructed to provide water to mills, pollution and plastic from the surrounding industries, or even an old tyre or shopping trolley sticking out of the water, it’s usually easy to spot some of the pressures these waterways face.
