It was lovely to welcome the children back last week. I have added an overview for parents information and a homework grid which can be used until the end of September.
Homework can be returned to school on a Thursday and be quarantined for 72 hours.
Reading books given home on a Monday and we will also ask that these are returned on a Thursday.
We will use different books in school and they will remain in your child’s tray.
Spelling words will be given out on the Blog at the start of the week with a tricky word list.
Children should work on 6 spelling words and if they wish challenge themselves to find 3 more words with the same pattern.
If your child has no difficulty with this weeks tricky word set you can continue to work on Fry’s word list.
It was lovely seeing you yesterday, I have sent home a selection of activities you can choose to do today. You may also wish to carry out some of the tasks in this sway.

We have had a wonderful trip and there are additional activities on the sway. I will also create an extra blog for additional learning opportunities over the summer.
You have been a wonderful class P 2/3, I am just sorry that our time together in the classroom came to an early finish this year but we have all learned new skills and I am proud the way you have faced these challenges.
From Mrs Flynn and myself, have a wonderful summer!!
I hope you enjoyed knowing we bought a goat through Oxfam, which will be a gift to a family in need overseas and I did print a copy of the e card for you all. If you have not got it before the summer we will make sure you get it when we return.
Have a wonderful summer everyone, I can’t believe its the end of the school year, I have missed seeing you all everyday but you have been great at home learning. Well done !
Some parents have been asking if they could have some school work over the holidays for their children. We do want you to enjoy spending time together as a family and won’t be providing work as such, however as you can see the sway I created this week has lots of ideas for further learning if you wish to use them.
IDL and Education City will still be available, you can take time to get more familiar with the numeracy on IDL as we will be looking at that in August if you wish.
Carry on reading to your child and sharing books together asking them questions about what they have read, discuss who was your favourite character and why? Make predictions about what will happen next and talk about ‘wow’ words. You could if you wish, encourage children to write short letters to family members, keep a diary or help you to write a shopping list.
You could continue to reinforce learning by asking your child to tell the time, what time will it be in an hour? half an hour? Or count out collections of coins , put varying selections of coins in different purses, plates or bundles and getting your child to count collections and say which has the most or least. You could play shops and look at items on a menu or price list, get them to add items together or work out change. Talk about the importance of measurement and accuracy as it crops up in everyday life. If you are baking ask why is it important to measure accurately? Or if you are laying a new carpet, decking or putting up shelves ask them to think about why measurement is important. These real life learning opportunities are valuable and the time spent together in the garden or in the home working together are exceptionally beneficial.
If you wish to carry on learning from the sway the following may be useful.
Summer challenge
There were lot of countries we did not visit. If you want a summer challenge.
Compare Scotland to another country, create a brochure or plan a Scottish holiday with places to visit and stay.
You may include:
•Location
•Weather
•Food
•Flags
•Attractions/scenery
•Anything else!
You can create a poster or record a video to showcase your information.
Look at the picture that Duncan drew at the end of the story using every colour in his crayon box, make a pile of all your colours at home and see if you can design and colour a picture using every colour too!
Be creative like Duncan, you could have a pink monster, blue strawberries or yellow trees!
I hope you are all enjoying our trip I think we need to relax a bit in Bali Indonesia.
Remember to complete your flag sheet or draw the flags from the countries you have visited. Round the World Task P2 flags
Let’s get ready to plan where we are staying in Bali. Using the details below decide which accommodation would be best for your family if they come and join us for the night. Work out who would be coming and how much it would cost?
Swiss Belhotel Segara Resort and Spa £50 for 1 adult and 1 child per night.
Rumah Bali – £65 for 1 adult and 1 child per night.
Inaya – Putri Bali – £100 for 1 adult and 1 child per night.
There are lots of learning opportunities this week, have fun and choose which tasks to do but you can continue with some of this over the summer if you wish.
