Seafield Snippets Friday 21st November 2025

This week we have been celebrating World Children’s Day and today we celebrated our commitment to Children’s Rights (UNCRC) by holding a Rights Day. This was a huge success, and I would like to thank our pupils from the Rights Respecting Group for all their efforts in organising this fun filled day.

On Thursday, we held an assembly focused on our school values of Responsibility and Respect. In the coming weeks, children will gain class points when spotted showing these values. The class with the most points at the end of the week will receive a special treat!

This week, you will have received details of all our Christmas related activities. Please let us know by contacting the school office if you have any questions related to planned events.

Primary 6/7 – Friday 21st November 2025

Primary 6/7 have had a great week with lots of brilliant learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • Lots of us really enjoyed our Rights Day on Friday morning as we continued to learn about Children’s Rights and take part in fun activities. We also did a great job with supporting our younger learners as they were taking part in the activities. A big shout out to our Pupil Group for Children’s Rights who put in a lot of work preparing activities and supporting teachers and learners on Friday morning
  • We really enjoyed our fourth Mandarin lesson this week as we learned about writing characters in Mandarin as well as the radicals which are part of these characters
  • We all really enjoyed our learning with estimation and rounding in Maths as we focused well and made very good progress
  • We also enjoyed our Outdoor Learning on Thursday as it was the first time that we were able to get down to the field and play together for a while
  • Primary 7s really enjoyed their online transition lesson with the focus this week on History and learning about the ancient Maya and Aztec civilisations
  • We enjoyed our PE session and continuing to develop our Tag Rugby skills
  • Finally, we really enjoyed watching the goals from the Scotland game again on Wednesday and discussing which goal was the best from the fantastic game!!

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us continued to find our Mental Maths work a bit tricky
  • One of our reading groups in class is finding the reading book that they have chosen quite challenging, although it’s a great and very interesting story
  • Some of us felt that writing that characters in Mandarin was quite difficult, especially the character that the Mandarin teachers showed us for “biang”, a type of flat noodle!

Our school value award winners for this week are Faith and Jake. Congratulations!

Well done P6/7 for a wonderful, busy week. Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 2/3 Friday 21st November

We have had a great week this week in P2/3. It has been both Road Safety Week and Scottish Book week and we have participated in activities relating to both. We also had a Rights Respecting morning on Friday where we took part in activities in different classrooms and outside, learning about children’s rights.

Tickled Pink

  • We enjoyed having our Junior Road Safety Officers visit our class and talk about keeping safe when we are out and about. We had a colouring competition to do and will find out next week who the P1 to P3 winners are.
  • We enjoyed reading and taking part in activities relating to Scottish Book week. We all got a bookbag this week and these were handed out to us by Mrs Denholm’s Granny!!!! We enjoyed meeting her and we liked having her visit our school.
  • We enjoyed learning our tricky words this week, playing different games to help us learn.
  • We were very excited to get our parts for the Nativity and learning the songs.
  • We got our reward for winning the school honeycomb challenge last term , we got to watch part of Sing 2 in the hall as a treat. We will get to watch the rest of it on the last week of term.

Green for Growth

  • Some of us are still finding counting collections of coins tricky. We need to keep practicing coins them and being able to identify how much each coin is worth. Remember we don’t have a 3p coin or a 7p coin.
  • Keep working on counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
  • We need to try really hard to take care of our resources, we have had 2 glue sticks without lids and quite a few whiteboard pens and felt pens also missing lids.

Our Lead Learners this week were Elodie for being Respectful and Harriet for being Ambitious – Well done girls.

Seafield Snippets Friday 14th November 2025

The week has been a busy one.  It was lovely to see everyone photo ready on Monday for the arrival of Tempest photography! Our Primary 5/6 and 6/7 pupils took part in a remembrance service led by Mrs Boyd, our school chaplain and our Primary 1, 2 and 3 pupils have been busy choosing parts for the upcoming Nativity performance. We are looking forward to sharing this news with you soon.

This week, I would like to thank our Junior Road Safety Officers, who have prepared something to share in our Seafield Snippets this week:

From 16th-22nd of November Seafield Primary School will be promoting and championing Road Safety. We have asked for donations from local businesses as part of a competition. We will be holding two competitions in the school. The Primary 1-3 children can take part in a colouring competition and Primary 4-7 have been asked to make a poster about Road Safety. The closing date will be Friday 21st November. Look out for other Road Safety work happening in the classes next week!

Throughout this week, the children have been learning about Anti-Bullying week, all classes have taken part in individual lessons. I was very pleased to hear from P2/3 who were able to explain the impact of unkind words and I look forward to P3/4 sharing their posters around school from next week. This links nicely into our Rights Respecting work as a school. On Friday we look forward to our Rights Respecting Group sharing activities and information with us.

Key dates for next week:

  • Monday 17th: Book Week Scotland and Road Safety Week (events taking place in school)
  • Wednesday 19th: Book gifting event for P1-3 pupils @2.30pm in school, parents/carers are welcome to attend and share a book with your child(ren)

Primary 6/7 – Friday 14th November

Primary 6/7 have had a wonderful week with lots of fantastic learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • Lots of us really enjoyed our comprehension and follow-up tasks this week that were linked to our class novel, “Kofi & the Rap Battle Summer”, because we developed our skills with more detailed answers using evidence from the book. It was amusing to hear Mr Hamilton having to rap quite a lot during the chapters we read this week!
  • Our Rights champions enjoyed making great progress with preparation for our Rights Day in school next Friday
  • We all really enjoyed our third online Mandarin lesson this week with our teachers from Southwest Jiaotong University and we thought it was great that it was quite easy to learn how to count from 11 to 19 based on our knowledge of numbers to 10. We also enjoyed learning how to ask and answer questions about name and age in Mandarin
  • We also enjoyed starting our Recount focus in Writing this week and learning the different sections and type of language and structure that we should use
  • The Primary 7s who were doing Bikeability this week really enjoyed learning about cycling safely on streets, despite the rather wet weather!
  • We enjoyed starting our PE sessions on Tag Rugby this week
  • Lots of us enjoyed our variety of Maths tasks this week including the Rich Task that we worked hard at on Friday morning

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us continued to find our Maths work with scale a little tricky
  • Some of us were a little disappointed about the lack of responsibility of some people in our class during our PE session with Mrs Robertson

Our school value award winners for this week are Mason and Sebastian. Congratulations!

Well done for a fantastic week, P6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 2/3 Friday 14th November

Another busy but fun week in P2/3!

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • During Literacy Circuit, many of the class were able to demonstrate how much their blending skills have improved.
  • In Maths we made right angle finders and hunted for right angles in the classroom.
  • As it is Anti-Bullying Week across Scotland, we have been focussing on kindness.  Mrs Baird used one of the apples from her garden to show us that although we might look fine on the outside, we can be hurt on the inside by what people say and do to us.
  • We are doing a really good job of learning how to structure a recount text correctly and we were able to write a recount text about a day in P2/3.
  • We have been learning about different jobs and occupations and we drew about what job we would like to do when we grow up.

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • From now on, we are going to really focus on kindness in the P2/3 class as we don’t want anyone to feel bruised and hurt on the inside like the apple.
  • We’ve started learning our nativity songs and are looking forward to more song rehearsals and learning our speaking parts next week.

Our school value award winners for this week are Rose for Ambition and Perri for kindness. Congratulations!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Primary 3/4 – Friday 14th November

This week has been a great one in Primary 3/4! We have been working extra hard!

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well)

  • Miss White thinks that we have all worked really hard this week! She is really pleased with all of the effort we have been putting in.
  • We think that our Anti-bullying posters were really good and that we put a lot of time into these. We created these to put up around the entire school!
  • We also think that our writing went very well this week. We are feeling more confident in our new writing genre and are getting better every week.
  • All of us think that our new Numeracy topic is going really well. We are enjoying exploring money and learning all about it.

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • This week’s beat the teacher was very close! We want to work on getting more points than Miss White by listening well and making sure that we are quiet when others are talking.
  • Some of us found our topic a bit tricky this week. As we are discussing Rainforests we are learning brand new information and sometimes this is hard to understand. We want to work on this!

Our value award winners this week for being kind is Lucas M and for being respectful is Struan. Well done!

Have a lovely weekend, see you next week!

Primary 6/7 have had a great week with lots of enjoyable learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • Lots of us really enjoyed our Art lesson when we were using cotton buds to practise pointillism and we had lots of fun trying different ways of creating artwork using this method
  • We all really enjoyed our buddying with the Primary 1s this week as it was lots of fun making the firework pictures with our buddies
  • We all really enjoyed our second online Mandarin lesson with our teachers from China and we are delighted that we can now count to ten in Mandarin
  • We also really enjoyed our online art lesson with the National Galleries if Scotland on Friday morning as it was great fun to learn how to make sculptures creatively with different materials
  • We are still really enjoying our class novel, “Kofi and the Rap Battle Summer”
  • The children who were taking part in the first Livingston North football event on Friday morning really enjoyed getting the chance to play games against other schools and it was brilliant to represent Seafield Primary School at the event

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us found our work with scale in Maths a little tricky
  • Some of us found the other Maths work that we were doing this week on place value to be a bit difficult, however, some people also really enjoyed it

Our school value award winners for this week are Kyle and Zac. Congratulations!

Well done for an excellent week, P6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

Friday 7th November 2025 P2/3

We have had a busy week this week with lots of learning going on in the class. We have also welcomed Mrs Page to our school and she has enjoyed visiting our classroom and getting to know us all a bit better at break and lunchtimes. It has been money week and we have been learning about the importance of money, recognising and using different coins and carrying out calculations. We also read a book called,  “No Money Day” and talked about savings and Food Banks.

Tickled Pink

  • We had great fun learning about our skeleton! We were finding out about bones and tried to feel different bones in our body. We then worked together to use masking tape to mark out where some of our bones are.
  • We had good fun in PE working in pairs and talking to each other to complete different challenges. We used hoops to balance between our tummies and had to complete a course and put the hoop on a chair without using our hands.
  • We started listening to our Nativity Songs this week!
  • We came up with some possible ideas for rewards for winning the Honeycomb Playground award – we shared our ideas with Mrs Page and she will make a shortlist of 3. Next week we will vote!

Green for Growth

  • We found money tricky this week and we would all benefit from handling money more, recognising different coins and notes and counting collections of different coins.
  • It was tricky naming the 3D shapes this week. We need more practice.
  • Writing a recount this week was a bit tricky! We wrote either about Halloween or Scare Hunger away and had to use words like….First…. Next….. Then…….After that. It was hard to remember to use these words.

P5/6 – 7.11.25

Tickled Pink

  • We have continued to practice handball in PE, getting ready for the P5 Handball Festival which takes place next Thursday.
  • We have begun to practise for our class assembly which will be on Friday 28th November at 9.15am. Some people have already learned their lines even though they only got them yesterday!
  • For outdoor learning this week, we used our maths skills to measure the area and perimeter of the kick pitch, the park area and the entire school grounds. We used trundle wheels to measure in metres.

Green for Growth

  • We are still working on joining up our handwriting and using cursive more regularly.

Lead learners next week are CJ and Cade.
