Community Action Blackburn (CAB) – Annual Competition

Good News!  Some of our pupil’s poster designs have been chosen to feature in next year’s CAB Calendar.

The panel had tough decisions to make with over 300 entries to this year’s competition and after much deliberation they managed to select their 12 winners who will make up the calendar months.

Murrayfield Primary School winners have been notified and will be presented with their prizes on Friday 22nd November 2013 at Blackburn Library at 1.00pm.

Well done to all our pupils who created fantastic posters and a big ‘Congratulations’ to the following pupils who have had their entries selected this year:

  • Nivyn Robson – P2
  • Casey Lumsden – P4
  • Abbie Heaney – P5/4
  • David Charker – P7/6

Autumn

The children in the Language Centre are using the context of the Percy the Park Keeper stories to explore the change in season from Summer to Autumn.  One day we even spotted Percy’s wheelbarrow in the school garden!  They have been collecting leaves, berries and nuts for the Autumn table and building up their vocabulary of Autumn nouns, verbs and adjectives.  To understand why the days feel shorter and colder they watched a science video and used a globe and torch to explain their understanding.  The children have played games hiding woodland creatures under leaves and describing them to their classmates to help visualisation and verbalising skills.  Autumn is a time for festivals and we learnt more about how Christians, Hindus and Jewish people celebrate including making a Sukkah shelter.
