Primary 4’s Viking Archaeology Day

This week in P2R…
P2 were very lucky to have a lady from a museum come in to speak to us about toys in the past. We learned about how toys have changed over time and some of us were lucky enough to have a go at playing with some of the toys.
To celebrate World Book Day we thought about what our favourite book was – we decided it was Jumblebum and so we displayed our very own Jumblebum on our classroom door!
We have also been going bananas this week learning all about Fairtrade – we are going to stick with Foncho to make sure farmers get a better deal!
We are very excited about our assembly next Friday and will be very busy next week practising our lines! We hope to see you after assembly next week to play some games in our classrooms.
This week in P2B…
We have been:
- practising our assembly
- taking away numbers up to 20 in maths
- looking at old toys a lady brought in for us to see
- learning about fair trade in our vertical groups.
Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day
The children in the Language Centre had great fun making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday for snack. They loved the story of Mr Wolf’s Pancake. Poor Mr Wolf didn’t know how to make pancakes so he asked various nursery rhyme characters to help him, however, they were very unhelpful. Ella predicted the ending ‘Mr Wolf is mad – he is going to eat all of the people up!’ and guess what he did (plus the pancakes)! Lots of the children made pancakes when they got home and the next day Lochlann and Andrew shared their experiences. Andrew told us ‘My pancakes were different because they were thick ones and they didn’t taste the same’. When we discussed Lent and giving up a temptation for 40 days Lochlann said ‘I couldn’t give up chocolate biscuits for 40 days – no way!’

Math Skills with Bathgate Academy
As part of our transition to high school some children in P7 and P6 have been meeting through Glow to practice their number skills.
We used whiteboards to solve problems and then show them to Mrs McGregor using the webcam.
This time we were developing our understanding of Roman Numerals and completed a follow up sheet in the classroom.
‘I thought it was really fun doing Roman Numerals because we have never done that before’ Sherelle
‘I learnt how to change numbers into Roman Numerals’ Abi
If you would like to practice any more number work please use this link: http://www.bathgateacademy.org.uk/
It will take you to the ‘Puzzle of the Month’ in the maths faculty area.
