This week’s Learning in Primary 4

Our learning this week

  • Continued learning about money including the decimal point and converting from pounds to pence/pence to pounds
  • Parents visited for our short stay & learn sessions, thank you for coming it was lovely to see you
  • Number talk activity with Mrs Miller & Mrs Stewart.
  • We talked about our skills in primary 4 and made our primary 4 person poster. ( Kaiden modelled)
  • We continued with Scottish country dancing and are increasing our skills to dance the Gay Gordons
  • More dictionary work
  • Worked with P5/4 and talked about role models
  • In grammar & punctuation, we learned about the structure of a paragraph.
  • Kaiden and Ryan completed the numicon grid!

Busy week in P4!

This week week:

  • Continued with chimney sums in maths
  • Completed homework challenge by researching information independently.
  • Learned new vocabulary for reports i.e. sub title , paragraphs
  • Practised our cursive handwriting
  • Reported on science experiments; making rain and how clouds are formed
  • We won the good lines reward and went to see the chicks!
  • Adding money
  • Art with Miss Moir
  • Started Scottish country dancing in P.E.
  • Kirstin won a prize from into film for her review in the Scots language, of the  Gruffalo’s wean in scots. Well done !
  • Marti got to choose a chicks name ….chick !

This weeks learning in Primary 4

We took advantage of the good weather and both our P.E  sessions were outdoors!  We also managed to work collaboratively with primary 5/4 outdoors.

We learned to:

  • Touch tackle in rugby.
  • Practised our skill of writing a review.
  • Exercised in class with go noodle.
  • Started to investigate how we add, subtract and multiply money
  • Worked with primary 5/4 and looked at what makes us feel good.

Homework challenge ! To practise our report writing skills the children have been asked to research an animal of their choice and note down facts. We will use this information to write a report in class , check the letter that was sent home, to be returned  18/5/16.

This week in Primary 4

Our learning this week, we

  • Practiced the skills needed to be a book reviewer
  • Used the good weather to go outside and practiced our athletic skills, relay racing.
  • Created weather poems in literacy
  • Explored the names of weather condition in French with Mrs Millar
  • Started our topic by discussing where we have been on holiday and locating those places on a map, talking about why the weather on holiday is important and created a word bank of topic words for weather topic e.g precipitation, visibility, clouds..

This week in Primary 4!

Great first week back! The children have been working very hard, our learning this week:

  • Wrote a diary entry on what we did during the Easter Holidays.
  • We looked at words that convey feelings and emotions during our reading comprehension.
  • Created an acrostic poem using the word Viking.
  • Continued to explore strategies for division sums and worked on “division colouring” making a picture by completing division sums .
  • Practised our cursive handwriting.

We also decided to change the classroom around, so we made a plan and followed it to change groups and our library corner. The children had great fun taking part in Blackburn’s Big Clean Up and made an excellent job of it!

Happy Easter from P5/4

We just wanted to wish all the parents and carers a very happy Easter! Please remember that everyone starts back at school on Monday 11th April.

This week we have:

  • Completed our PowerPoints about London and presented them to the class
  • Had a game of basketball and rounders outside in the sunshine
  • Worked on more mental maths strategies

Busy week in Primary 4

Very busy week in P4, the children are busy making their enterprise products, remember you can buy Easter danglers (50p) and Easter bunny face cloths (£1.50). We have also been learning to:

  • Divide using the “chunking “ strategy
  • Make graphs in data handling
  • Plan our Viking story

P5/4 Latest!

Another week whizzes by and only a few days left until the Easter Holidays!

This week we have:

  • Been working on our Listening Skills which continue to improve
  • Working hard on mental maths as well as revisiting aspects of time and money – we worked really well as a team
  • Celebrated success with Sophie Carty who won medals for her Irish Dancing and Ellie Chapman who also won medals and a trophy for gymnastics! Well done girls!!
  • Thoroughly enjoyed the bench ball tournament held at Blackburn Community Centre on Wednesday. We put all of our newly learned skills into action and had a great time! Please see some of the photos below.
  • Today sees us raise money for Sport Relief in our Jammy Jog – photos will be posted next week!

On a separate note, Mr Richards would like to thank all the parents who came by yesterday for a chat and a look around the classroom. It was really nice to discuss your children’s learning and continuing successes!

This week in Primary 4

Well done Primary 4 on an excellent performance of our Viking assembly! Everyone carried out their roles excellently and gave everyone important information on the Vikings. This was a good way to consolidate our topic learning.
This week we also:
• Learned Viking words in French with Mrs Miller
• Started learning about remainders in division sums
• Created a character profile of a Viking
