Welcome to our Primary 2 blog for this year!

Now that we have all settled into our new class, Mrs Bowman has our time table sorted.

PE days will be Wednesdays for outside PE and Thursdays for indoor PE with Mrs McGlynn.

Homework will be issued on a Monday and needs to be completed for Thursdays. PLEASE BRING YOUR HOMEWORK BAG EVERYDAY AS WE WILL BE USING OUR READING BOOKS IN CLASS.

We have been learning:

• how to be a good listener by sitting still, looking at the speaker, not chatting and doing good thinking
• how to be a good friend by helping others, inviting them to play your game or using our ‘stop it I don’t like that!’ strategy.
• we have been learning about our rights and making our charter.
• We are learning to tell the time- o’clock and half past times.
• We REALLY like singing our BIG number song! (this can be found on You Tube)

This week we have been learning;

We have been learning about sharing in 2s, 3s, and sharing fairly – Miryn

We have been writing about an apple tree – Logan

We made Dandelions with paint – Scott

We were writing about a rainy day – Lewis

We planted our own Butterbeans – Cody-Leigh

We had ours sports day flat races – Amber

P2 red group were learning how to do chimney sums – Melanie

W have had a SUPER week in P2/1.  This is just some of the things we have been learning this week;

• We learned how seeds grow  – Cody-leigh
• We made our own flowers in art and had to label all the parts of the flower independently – Peter
• We planted our own flowers – Alivia
• We planted butter beans in our own little cups – Alex
• We made our own greenhouses and planted seeds in them – Macaulay and Melanie
• Our butter beans have already started to open – Amber
• We have been practising our sounds and learning to spell words – Lewis
• P2s have been practising their handwriting – Melanie
• We have been looking at weight, size (lengths) and volume – Scott

This week we have been learning;

• We have been learning the life cycle of the butterfly – Lewis
• We made leaflets on livings things like; flowers, spiders, ladybirds and butterflies – Peter
• We had to read about fidget spinners and answer questions on them (P2) – Amber
• We have learning about subtraction – Cody-Leigh
• We learned what the word endangered meant – Miryn
• We had words of the day this week that we had to use in a sentence; magnificent, explain and generous – Aiva, Cody-Leigh and Miryn
• We have been looking at tens and unit again to do big number addition sums – Amber
• We were looking at the letter A – Oliver
• We have been learning about the number 8 – Oliver
• In early intervention we were doing a spelling test – Melanie

This week we have been learning;

• about things that are alive and not alive – Miryn
• we went out to the playground to look for things that are a live and found a ladybird – Cody-Leigh
• We all had a turn to hold the ladybird and I counted it’s spots – Amber
• we made seagulls with the boys and girls from the nursery – Charlie
• We learned about acrostic poems and we chose things that are a live to write them about like; trees, flower, ladybird, plant and spider – Melanie
• We started learning about take away – Miryn
• we had lots of fun dancing today at the Dance-a-thon – Kian

• We were drawing rectangles and squares to make a painting – Cody-leigh
• We were looking at acrostic poems – Scott
• We made our own pictograms – Miryn
• We started our new topic of living things – and we looked at what things are alive and what things aren’t -Peter

• I know that a cube has 6 faces – Brydin
• We have been building towers that had to be as tall as a ruler – Charlie
• I know a cone has 1 corner and 2 faces – Brydin
• We have been learning how to make some 3d shapes – Miryn
• An octagon has 8 sides – Scott
• A hexagon has 6 sides – Aiva
• I made a house using a triangular prism and a cube – Melanie
• We were learning about how we get our energy – Cody-Leigh
• We need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables – Scott and Macaulay
• We need to eat yoghurts, bread, milk and lots of water to be healthy – Aiva and Cody- Leigh

We were learning about Red Nose day today – Cody-Leigh

I can identify that a pentagon has 5 sides and a hexagon has 6 sides – Peter

You can climb out the learning pit – because there is always a way out – Kian

I know that a trapezium is like a square but smaller and squint – Robert

We have been learning about shapes and how we know which shape is which by looking at their sides – Miryn

We have been learning about different shapes; like we know a octagon is an octagon because we think about an octopus with 8 legs, a hexagon has an x in it just like the number six so thats how we remember what a hexagon is – Melanie

Cookers use high energy – Peter

We did a great FAIRTRADE Assembly – thank you for coming along!

As well as practising this week , we have also been very busy learning other things! (As well as making posters for the Assembly).

We have been learning the 5 times table this week – Cameron

We have been solving the problem solve it blocks – William

We were solving problems using adding and subtracting – William

We had to solve a problem involving spotty puppies – Hali

We were writing a recipe for banana splits – Eve

We were also writing a recipe for chocolate sauce – Jase

We were learning how to skateboard in the hall – Adriana

Most children really enjoyed it!

We are delighted to be the most improved class this week.
