Murrayfield House and Vice House Captains 2016

Congratulations to the following pupils, who found out today that they had been selected by the pupils of Murrayfield to become our new House Captains and Vice Captains.  We wish you great success in your new roles.

Well done to all our P7 pupils who applied for the role of House Captain.  We were very impressed by your confidence and maturity during the selection process.

We are delighted to inform you that our school has been awarded a sportscotland SILVER SCHOOL SPORT AWARD FOR 2016-17

The Silver Award is recognition of our school’s dedication to place sport at the heart of our school’s planning, practice and ethos.

The Silver Award also highlights that our school has shown improvement across the core areas of the Award and demonstrated an on-going commitment to increase young people’s opportunities and engagement in physical education, school sport and leadership and provide a clear pathways to life-long participation in sport.

Guided Reading

What is Guided Reading?

Within Murrayfield Primary School guided reading sessions will take place 3 – 4 times a week in each class.

  • Children will be divided into ability groups, according to their reading comprehension age.
  • Comprehension means understanding what has been read and being able to talk or write about it._

3 – 4 sessions per week

  • Before and During reading

Working in pairs to discuss text and make predictions. Reading for fluency.

  • After reading

Teacher works with the group. Focus on comprehension skills, writer’s craft, grammar punctuation. Teaching reading skills and listening to reading and discussing fluency.

  • Follow-up

Pupils  work on follow-up reading/writing activities, relating to the text.Opportunities for independent/paired/group work and collaborative work.

  • Vocabulary work

Investigating new/ambitious vocabulary. Finding definitions and using vocabulary within a context.

BIG TALK THEME!

Each week we will be setting pupils a talk challenge.  Through encouraging pupils to talk about a variety of issues we are developing their communication skills, confidence, vocabulary and general knowledge.  Please take time to talk with your child and contribute to our BIG TALK!
