P2 Learning this week…

Note to parents:

Please check out our new families connect initiative. Coming soon!

We have been very busy this week.

  • We have enjoyed our maths challenge. We had to recognise and colour in a number picture.
  • We are still learning our big number song up to a trillion!!
  • We have been learning about our emotion cogs and have been exploring when we are ‘happy’. How do we know we are happy and how do we show it?
  • We then used our jotters to write about a time when we are happy.
  • We have been sorting out our reading groups and have already started to focus on our reading skills and words.
  • We are learning how to use the computer properly and how to play learning games. Stop the clock is our favourite.

Have a lovely holiday weekend!

Primary 2.

Having fun in Primary 2!

Welcome to our Primary 2 blog for this year!

Now that we have all settled into our new class, Mrs Bowman has our time table sorted.

PE days will be Wednesdays for outside PE and Thursdays for indoor PE with Mrs McGlynn.

Homework will be issued on a Monday and needs to be completed for Thursdays. PLEASE BRING YOUR HOMEWORK BAG EVERYDAY AS WE WILL BE USING OUR READING BOOKS IN CLASS.

We have been learning:

  • how to be a good listener by sitting still, looking at the speaker, not chatting and doing good thinking
  • how to be a good friend by helping others, inviting them to play your game or using our ‘stop it I don’t like that!’ strategy.
  • we have been learning about our rights and making our charter.
  • We are learning to tell the time- o’clock and half past times.
  • We REALLY like singing our BIG number song! (this can be found on You Tube)

We can’t wait for next week!!

Update for p3T…

This week we have been learning more about the Romans. We have been making mosaics and learning about the Roman army. We learned about the uniform and the life of a Roman soldier. We also learned about different marching drills that the soldiers did in battle.

In number we have been learning to add within 100. We have been using a counting on strategy and a number line to help us. We also have been remembering our partitioning skills to add numbers to 100. We used our numicon to find the tens and units in numbers and then used this to help us to add.

In maths we have been learning about time and have been making and reading hours and half hours on clocks. We are now learning to read quarter past and quarter to on an analogue clock.

In science we have continued our work on forces and have explored pushing and pulling as well as discussing gravity.

In language, we have been learning some ordering and summarising skills and we will continue this in class. The children have chosen a Scot’s poem to recite and I can’t wait to hear them say their poems. This week has been very exciting as we have been able to use our sound mats and clicker 6 in spelling and we have nearly finished work on our p3 common words.

We have been writing newspaper articles and the children should look at newspaper stories with adults at home to help them with this. We have been learning about alliteration- using the same sounds at the beginning of words, the features of newspapers such as headlines, facts and opinions and opening and closing paragraphs.

Looking forward to next week.

Happy New Year from P3T!

We have made a great start to this year’s learning and have had a very busy week in P3T.

We have already started our Romans topic and have been learning some cool facts already from our information books. Did you know that the Romans made pictures out of little tiles! These were calledĀ mosaics. We have been using our adding skills to colour winter mosaics.

We have been learning about Roman Numerals- where we can still see them in our world today, how to recognise them and put them into the correct order. We have already made a clock display for the class with our numbers and Roman numerals too.

In science, we have been learning about forces and focusing on pushing and pulling forces. We have also looked at friction and how different materials can make things go faster or slower.

We all have our new reading books and spelling is up and running again after the holidays. Please help your child to bring their reading book to school every day and homework should be returned on a Thursday.

Thanks

Primary 3T Learning this week

This week has been very hectic with lots of Christmas activities needing finished. Our Christmas boxes were finished on Monday as well as our Christmas tree pictures for our hall display.

We have been learning our concert songs and have even filmed ourselves singing them to see how our performance could be better. We think we sound AMAZING!!

This week in language we have been writing Japanese Haiku poems about winter and have been thinking about the syllables in words.

We have also been learning how to express tenses in our writing by adding -ed or -ing on to words.

We have been learning more about shapes and can tell you which properties they have.

Hope to see lots of people at the concert.
