P3 News

We have had a fantastic week in P3.

We have been writing our Egyptian imaginative stories, including lots of exciting vocabulary such as ‘sarcophagus’, ‘Tutankhamun’ and ‘hieroglyphs’. We have shared our stories with our talking partners and are encouraging each other to improve our writing even more.

In numeracy we have worked a little bit on times tables and are continuing to work on measuring and comparing the lengths of different objects.

On Tuesday we enjoyed our trip to Pizza Express. We worked with Andy who gave us a tour and helped us to make our own margherita pizzas. We used mozzarella cheese and passata sauce, made with tomato and basil. It was a great morning! In the afternoon we shared our pictures from the trip and wrote thank you letters to all of the staff for making our trip great.

Have a wonderful long weekend.

A busy week in Primary 3

It’s been a spectacular week in P3.

In maths and numeracy we have continued with estimation and rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s. We are becoming more confident with this.

We started our reading groups again and have new books to read at home. We are going to focus on using expression when we are reading.

For writing, because of the weather this week we chose to write fictional (imaginative) stories about snow adventures. We tried to use lots of interesting vocabulary and practised VCOP.

Our new topic is Ancient Egypt. We learned about the Egyptian alphabet called hieroglyphs and challenged ourselves to write our names like this.

We have been doing work in health and wellbeing and PE with Mrs McGlynn. We practised skills for dodgeball in PE.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend. Remember to keep safe in the snow!

Our Week in P3

Happy New Year from everyone in Primary 3! Our first week back has been very busy and terrific.

We have written our holiday news this week and made our work exciting by including word boost words.

We thought about some new year’s resolutions and have set ourselves some targets for the rest of P3 (UNCRC article 12 – the right to be listened to and taken seriously).

We have been practising our handwriting and planned what we are going to do to improve our writing even more this year.

In maths we have already started to think about our times tables and will keep practising these in class and at home.

In numeracy we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, thinking about place value as well estimating where to put numbers on an empty number line.

We have enjoyed our daily mile and will continue this next week.

In class we have started reading our new class novel, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. We are enjoying this so far and look forward to reading more.

Have a marvellous weekend,

We have written newspaper articles about Buddy the Elf after we found he had caused trouble at our classroom Christmas tree.

We are continuing to use our word boost words as much as we can when we are speaking and writing.

We are enjoying learning new Christmas facts every day with our class advent calendar.

We enjoyed some RME with Mrs McGlynn.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Our spooky week in Primary 3

We have written a newspaper report all about a spooky bat discovered in our classroom for Halloween.

We have been learning all about verbs and including ‘doing’ words in our writing.

Remember to keep safe on bonfire night.

Have a colourful and sparkling weekend,

Our Week in Primary 3

It has been a busy and amazing week in class (we have been learning all about adjectives).

We have continued work on place value, using tens and units to solve problems. We use concrete materials and pictures to challenge ourselves.

For writing we have started looking at reports and will begin our first newspaper report next week. We focussed on the ‘5W’ questions to help plan our report (who/what/where/why/when).

We have been busy doing some art for Halloween and have designed our own spooky haunted houses.

We have been using as many adjectives as we can and have managed to use lots of these around the school as we even thought about adjectives to describe our playground during our daily mile.

In PE we have been practising throwing, catching and some football skills too.

We hope you have a lovely (and spooky) Halloween weekend.

This week in Primary 3

We have had a great and busy week in P3.

It is Scottish maths week so we have done some maths and numeracy every day.

We created our own pictures out of lots of 2D shapes. We made some house pictures, mermaids, rockets, monsters and animals all from different shapes.

We have continued our work on time, learning all about quarter past and quarter to.

We used 3D objects to build models and towers.

We have been practising our spelling, especially common words and we have used these in our handwriting.

For our topic we discussed similarities and differences between island life and living in a town or city. We found a new and interesting word, population.

Big talk and numeracy homework will come home next week, spelling and reading will begin the week after.

Have a great long weekend.
