Making the most of the good weather in P7/6

In P7/6 we have made the most of the recent good weather and took a few of our lessons outside!

Math/Numeracy

  • We have moved onto our new topic of measurement
  • We used our playground environment to test our ability to accurately estimate larger items/areas.  This activity showed this is an area we need to work on – lets hope the sunshine comes back!
  • We have also been working on volume and capacity using ml/cl/l

HWB

Last week we began our new IDL topic on the human body.  We have been learning about a variety of internal organs of the human body and their purpose within the different internal systems. We consolidated our learning of organs  by going outside and tracing around each other and showing the location of the main organs.  This week we moved onto the Digestive System.

Literacy

This week we have been focusing on the grammar rules around speech marks.  The children are being encouraged to increase the variety of punctuation they use in all their written work.  Functional writing task this week was to describe the internal workings of the Digestive System.

RME

The class have been learning about Buddhism.

Transition: P6

Our P6s have been spending time getting to know their buddies that are coming up to P1 in August.  Miss Moir and I are working on a P6 to P7 transition timetable for 7-10th June.

Transition: P7

Our P7s are getting very excited about their forthcoming move onto S1. Yesterday the Welcome Packs were shared with the children.  They were all desperate to find out what class they will be in, what ‘new’ subjects are Abby R looking to know what Humanities is … whilst Emma P was unable to control her excitement that Roast Beef is on the menu! 🙂 🙂

** Please note, on the bus timetable it states that the bus leaves Bathgate Road at 8.05 – the bus actually leaves earlier than this.  I have advised that the children make their way to the bus stop by 7.50am in order to ensure they do not miss it **

Blackburn’s Got Talent 2016!

The school finals will be taking place next Friday, with the upper school semis taking place next Thursday.  With this in mind, our class auditions will take place on Wednesday after lunch!  Anyone wishing to share their talent … GET PRACTICING!  🙂 🙂

Wishing you all a fantastic long weekend!

P7/6 and P7 Mock Election 2016

This week our P7/6 and P7 classes have been learning about:

  • The Scottish Elections
  • Living in a democracy versus a dictatorship
  • Voting systems: First Past the Post versus Proportional Representation

The classes were split into parties.  Using their developing team work skills they had to work together, democratically deciding on:

  • Party Name
  • Party Leader
  • Party Colour, Logo and make Rosettes
  • Write a Manifesto
  • Design and create a leaflet promoting their party
  • Write a speech to promote their party

Both Mrs Harrison and I were extremely impressed with the manner in which all pupils engaged with their learning.  They demonstrated superb team work skills and a real maturity in each of the tasks set.  A HUGE well done to all!

Today we brought our learning together and held a mock election.  All pupils from P5-7 were invited to listen to the manifesto speeches and a democratic vote was held. Ms Macrae also came along – she too was extremely impressed with the standard of the work.  Thank you to all the pupils and teachers from P5 and P6 for coming along to support our election.

We plan to further develop and extend our knowledge of political elections by learning about the upcoming European Referendum.

The result of today’s election will be announced on Monday … Watch this space!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the good weather!

Miss Preston and Mrs Harrison 🙂 🙂

P7/6

A reminder that the school is closed to pupils tomorrow (Thursday 5th May).

The pupils of P7/6 and P7 have been learning all about why the school is closed tomorrow.

Please do question them! See how well they can explain today’s learning to you in preparation for Friday ……

Young Writer Competition: P7/6

Well done to Logan, Abby R, Emma, Aiden C and Eva for being the class representatives entered into this year’s Young Writers Competition.

The children were given the task of creating an imaginative piece of writing based on our WWII learning.  They could choose to write a story, a poem, a newspaper article, a comic strip etc.   I was extremely impressed with all the pieces of writing!

Well done and good luck to our class entrants!

P6 and P7 Interschool Football

A huge well done to everyone who participated in this afternoon’s P6-P7 tournament.

Miss Moir and I were impressed with the way you participated with confidence … not to mention some fantastic skills that were on show!

Most of all we were extremely impressed with the Sportsmanship shown by all!  You did an amazing job representing Murrayfield Primary School!

We hope you all enjoyed the experience!   Not long until the next tournament.
