P2/1 News

We have been very busy  in P2/1 this week.  Lots of rehearsals have been going on for our nativity which is next week.  We have been singing the songs every single day that  Mrs Mackie thinks she must be singing them in her sleep because the songs are driving her ‘Baa-baa-bananas’!

In numeracy & maths, we have been learning about number bonds to 9 and have been finding out which numbers go together to make 9.

We have been learning to tell the time using o’clock in digital and analogue.

We have also been learning the number words up to 10.  This has been quite tricky for us but we will keep working on it until we can recognise and read all of the words.  Can you help us at home?

This was the last week of after school clubs.  In Stay and Play, Aaron made his name out of building blocks.  Mrs Mackie was very impressed with him!

Rhys and Viktoria were awarded a Head Teacher award for trying very hard to use their sounds to write tricky words.  Well done!

We enjoy reading stories in our class and looking at the books in our library. We have been learning new Word Boost words.  This week our words were: scurry, belong, disappear and stare.  Ask us about them and we will tell you what they mean!

A reminder that our Nativity is next Thursday (14th) at 9:30am and 1:45pm.  We hope you will come along and enjoy it with us.  Also Christmas Jumper day is on Friday – pay £1 to wear your most festive or silliest Christmas jumper!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Another week in P2/1

This week in P2/1 we have been leaning how to add two different amounts together. We learned that when you are adding you have to count the cubes or counters until you have counted them all. That will give you the answer. We were learning how to use ten-frames to help us with our adding.

We learned about the sound ‘o’.  To make our sound  we have to make our mouth into a large circle shape.

These things begin with the sound ‘o’ – orange, octopus, on, ox and octagon.  Can you help us find other things that begin with the ‘o’  sound?

We were learning about wild animals and animals are pets.  A pet might live in our houses and can be friendly.  Wild animals don’t stay in our houses and you wouldn’t want to pet one! We learned the names of some of the animals that live in Scotland.  We spoke about badgers, deer, otters, robins, rabbits, snakes and a few others. Next week we will be learning about why it is important to look after our community and the effect that litter can have on our wildlife.

We also took part in a Judo taster session.  We learned some new moves and had great fun. Destination Judo sessions are held in the Bathgate Sports centre (Xcite) on a Thursday night – we will be bringing home a leaflet to explain more!

We also learned how we can keep ourselves safe when out and about at bonfire/firework displays.  We listened to the the story of Welephant and his friend on Bonfire night.  Here is the webpage for the story if you want to share it with me. http://www.welephant.co.uk/bonfirestory000.htm

Shhhh….don’t tell but we have already started to learn our songs for our nativity.

Have a good weekend and stay safe on Bonfire Night!

Working hard in P2/1.

We have been working hard in P2/1 this week despite it being a shorter week than normal.

We have been taking pictures with our ‘memory camera’ to help us recognise and reme

mber the word ‘the’ as it is a word that we can’t sound out.  We have been learning to write ‘the’ on our whiteboards, building ‘the’ from Lego and finding ‘the’ which has been mixed up with lots of other words.  We are getting good at recognising and writing it now!

We designed posters with an Eco theme for the House points board.  We had lots of good ideas to share and worked hard on our designs.

We are still learning to speak French.  We can say ‘Bonjour’ and always start our mornings off with a French song.  This week we have been learning what ‘Ca-va?’ means and have been answering Mrs Mackie in English but next week we will learn to answer in French!

We have started singing songs for our Nativity already!  So, you might hear us singing about Father Christmas and Christmas recipes around the house!

We had an afternoon of ‘autumn’ were we had different autumn challenges.  We could build a home for an animal to live in or explore the autumn tray and draw the natural things that we found (like conkers or sycamore keys or acorns).  We had autumn paper and wrote or drew stories about autumn.  We completed autumn patterns and had to decide which autumn picture would come next plus lots of other activities to do.

Next week we will be learning about Halloween and beginning our new topic about Scottish Wildlife. We will be learning about keeping ourselves safe on Bonfire night, rhyming words and adding sums and much, much more.  Ask us what we are learning and we will be able to tell you!

Miss Paterson is working in our class with us just now and will be with us for the next four weeks. She is helping us with our learning and we are showing her what superstars we are!

What’s been happening in P2/1?

This week, as well as doing lots of numeracy and literacy work, we went to the library.  We listened to a story.  It was called ‘The Huge Bag of Worries’.  We got to look at the different books in the library that were for our age group.

After the library we went on an autumn walk and looked at the different colours we could see.  We collected little bits of leaves to make an autumn palette.

We wrote stories about autumn and compared the colours of autumn to the things we could see growing in the school garden.  Ask us about what we saw and what their colours were.

Here are some of the other things we have enjoyed this week:

What’s been going on in P2/1 this week?

It has been another very busy (and exciting) week!

On Monday we were learning about the ‘n’ sound.  We learned that it is a dark blue sound because we make it with our tongues and it is a loud sound.  We were also working on our numeracy skills from 0-10 through lots of counting, sand writing, number matching and much more. We learned about the season of Autumn and spoke about the changes we can see in our environment.  We painted Autumn pictures using our hands and fingers.

On Tuesday it was our turn to take part in the sponsored cycle around the playground.  Some of us were quite nervous about it but by the end of our time slot we were having a great time.  Mrs Mackie was very proud of us all for trying so hard.  Mrs Walker even had a shot of cycling around the playground but was so fast that we never managed to take a photograph of her!

On Wednesday Sean Batty visited our school.  We were very excited about seeing him.  He was delighted with the amount of money that Murrayfield had raised to help the STV Children’s appeal.

Today (Thursday), we talked about who we help, whether it was our family, our friends or even our pets and then wrote stories about helping.   We made soup for our ‘Souper Friday’ event tomorrow.  We chopped up carrots, leeks, onions and potatoes to make potato & leek soup and carrot and coriander soup.  The smell followed us all the way back to our classroom…it smelled delicious and we hope it tastes just as good!

‘Souper’ Friday!

P2/1 are hosting the ‘Biscuits and Blether’ session this Friday (6th October) although it will be renamed ‘Souper Friday’ instead as they will be making soup for you! We hope that you will be able to come along and taste some of their delicious soup!  It starts at 10am straight after assembly.

P2/1 PE kit help!!!

Good morning mums and dads. I have been checking all PE kits to ensure that our class have the correct clothing for indoor and outdoor PE sessions. Most of our class have full PE kits but some have only partial kits and some don’t have any at all! Can you please ensure that your child has the following: shorts/t-shirt for indoor PE (they should already have indoor shoes in school) and for outdoor: jogging bottoms/long sleeved top/water proof jacket and outdoor shoes (trainers).
Thanks for your help in this matter. :o)
