P7 Transition to Bathgate Academy – Transport Update

Update

School Transport: Bus Applications

ALL pupils requiring transport in the new session (August 2016) are still required to submit an application form.  However, P7 bus passes for transition days will now be sent to the school so that we can distribute these to pupils prior to their first transition day.  Parents are not required to do anything to get these temporary passes as we will now be able to order these on your child’s behalf.

To find the online application form to arrange transport from August 2016, simply follow the link which will take you directly to the application process page.  The form  will be submitted directly to school transport:

The deadline given by School Transport for submission of forms is 6th MAY –  This date is earlier than in previous years in order to ensure service delivery.  We have downloaded a paper copy of the form which we can give you if anyone is having difficulty using the above link.

P7 Transition to Bathgate Academy

School Transport: Bus Applications

Bathgate Academy have been advised by school transport that ALL pupils requiring transport should submit an application – this will include children who travel by taxi and mini bus as well as school buses.  P7 pupils who will be attending Bathgate Academy will require a pass to use the buses on their transition days.

Pupils who are travelling with medical conditions will continue to have their travel arrangements assessed by the school doctor and at this stage do not require to submit an application.

The new bus pass layout will differ from previous years so pupils should be made aware that previous cards will not be accepted.  School transport have created a link to a new online feature which allows parents and carers to submit an application online making it quicker and easier.  The form can be found at the following address and will be submitted directly to school transport:

The deadline given by School Transport for submission of forms is 6th MAY –  This date is earlier than in previous years in order to ensure service delivery.  There are printed paper copies of the application form and these are available from Bathgate Academy school office for anybody who cannot access the online facility.

We requested a note of interest from our current P5 and P6 pupils who would like to attend the residential trip to Dalguise Adventure Centre in Perthshire, which was provisionally booked to take place in the Autumn term.  We are delighted by the response and pleased to say that there has been enough interest to allow the camp to go ahead. Thank you to everyone who has paid their deposits to secure a place.  The children will experience a range of activities and challenges throughout their stay.  Further information regarding camp will follow shortly, in the meantime if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

A Very Successful Class Open Day

Rich Teahobnob

Are you a hobnob or a Rich Tea?

Thank you to all our parents/carers who were able to attend our class open day event this morning.  We were delighted by the turnout and hope you all enjoyed sharing in your child’s learning and finding out a little bit more about Growth mindsets and our Mild, Spicy, Hot challenges across the stages.  We have decided to send the Mindset Quiz home as a family homework challenge, which will allow you to discuss the statements and become more familiar with the meaning of ‘fixed and growth mindsets.’  This should be with you sometime next week.

West Lothian Council’s Attendance Policy

The AIMS team (Attendance Improvement Management Service) has been supporting schools within West Lothian to help raise the profile and priority of attendance issues. The AIMS team work in partnership with schools and families to support the implementation of West Lothian Council’s Attendance Policy, focusing on early intervention through regular attendance audits and meetings.

West Lothian Council’s Attendance Policy provides a system that intervenes at an early stage and letters are sent to parents/carers when their child’s attendance falls below 90%. This system keeps parents/carers informed about their child’s attendance as absences can mount up easily and this has an impact on their overall attendance percentages. This also allows us to address any concerns or difficulties parent/ carers are facing getting their children into school or getting them to school on time.

Please remember to keep the school office informed of your child’s absence and reasons for this by phoning as early as possible on the first morning of the absence in accordance with West Lothian Council’s procedures for ‘Safe Arrivals.’

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation with this matter.
