West Lothian Council’s Attendance at School Policy

West Lothian Council’s Attendance at School Policy provides a system that intervenes at an early stage and letters are sent to parents/carers when their child’s attendance falls below 90%. This system keeps parents/carers informed about their child’s attendance, as absences can mount up easily and this has an impact on their overall attendance percentages. This also allows us to address any concerns or difficulties parent/ carers are facing getting their children into school or getting them to school on time.

The AIMS team (Attendance Improvement Management Service) has been supporting schools within West Lothian to help raise the profile and priority of attendance issues. The AIMS team work in partnership with schools and families to support the implementation of West Lothian Council’s Attendance at School Policy, focusing on early intervention through regular attendance audits and meetings.

Please remember to keep the school office informed of your child’s absence and reasons for this by phoning as early as possible on the first morning of the absence in accordance with West Lothian Council’s procedures for ‘Safe Arrivals.’

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation with this matter, please do not hesitate to contact the school should you have any questions regarding attendance or if you require support with this matter.

SNSA – Scottish National Standardised Assessment – Primary 7 Pupils

Dear Parent/ Carer,

SNSA (Scottish National Standardised Assessment)  Primary 7 Pupils

In August 2017 Scottish Government introduced the SNSA, a single, nationally developed set of standardised assessments for aspects of literacy and numeracy, designed to align with the way we deliver education in Scotland through Curriculum for Excellence.

In addition to SNSA, ongoing and informal assessment continues to be a central part of everyday assessment in schools.  The Scottish National Standardised Assessments (SNSA) are now available to schools and local authorities.

The main purpose of the assessments is to provide information for teachers on how well children are doing in literacy and numeracy and to help guide learning and teaching.

The assessments are also designed to produce national-level information about children and young people’s progress for teachers’ use in school and the Scottish Government at national level. National level information covers the whole of Scotland and not individual schools.

Our P7 pupils will be completing their SNSA assessments over the next few weeks in compliance with West Lothian Council policy.

Further information

For further information about the Scottish National Standardised Assessments please use the following link which can be found on our blog and which will take you to a ‘Assessing Children’s Progress:  A Guide for Parents and Carers’ which has been produced by Education Scotland:

Blackburn Gala Day – Saturday 9th June

Come along and join the fun on Saturday.

All pupils and parents are welcome to come along and join Murrayfield parent council members and staff as they walk around the village as part of the procession, which takes place straight after the crowning ceremony.  Look out for our Super Mario themed school float which is currently under construction…we are hoping to scoop 1st prize again!  As usual there will be spaces available for nursery children and their parents (these spaces will be given on a first come basis)

The school have chosen to go with the theme Super Mario (easy costume idea – dungarees/jeans, brightly coloured t-shirt, pretend moustache) but you are welcome to come along as another cartoon character or approprate gaming character.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Blackburn’s Got talent

Just a quick reminder that the live finals for ‘Blackburn’s Got talent’ are taking place tonight.  These will be held in the Partnership Building instead of the Community Centre so make sure you are at the right venue : )

Looking forward to seeing another fantastic show this year!

Good luck to all our entrants

Murrayfield’s Gala Float – Blackburn Gala Day

The Parent Council have made a great start to our float decorations and we now have several drawings ready to be painted.  The hub will be available to use after school from 3.20pm on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th to set up and paint these items, alternatively if you have paints at home and would like to come and collect one of these drawings and take it away to paint at home then this can be arranged.  These drawings are on card which are approximately 1m x 50cm – 1m x 1m in size so can easily be carried or fit into a car.  If you are available to come into school on either Tuesday or Wednesday please contact the school office to let them know.  Likewise if you would like to take a drawing away, please speak to the school office or Mrs Waugh to arrange this.

We are hoping to get 1st prize again this year so all help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Mrs Waugh

Gala Float

Parent Council members met with Mrs Waugh and the theme for this year’s float can be revealed……

Thank you to the parents who have been in touch to say that they are free to help out over the next couple of weeks to help create another amazing Murrayfield float for our gala procession.  The committee will be meeting at school at some point this week to get started….keep checking the blog for updates about these dates and times.

Outdoor Learning – Access to Playgrounds

Outdoor learning is a part of our curriculum and during the school day we may be using the surrounding playgrounds as an outdoor learning space.  We require these areas to remain available to allow for outdoor learning to take place at any time and for health and safety reasons we cannot permit parents/ carers into the playground until the end of the school day.  Please do not open gate/ enter the playground until after 3.15pm.

Thank you for your support
