As always, P5/4 have worked extremely hard this week. Lots of assessment has been taking place in order for the children to show their understanding of what we have covered this session so far. Every single child has worked their socks off to show his or her best possible work and I have to say, this makes me extremely proud. Keep this up p5/4!
Our stars of the week this week (who get to sit on the special cushions on the carpet) are Neve and Brooke. Well done girls!
The winners of this week’s raffle are:
pink chair – Robbie
Sitting in my seat for one lesson – Rachael
Sitting next to me in assembly – Anton
Sitting beside a friend for one lesson – Esme
prizes from the prize box – Kaiden and Kirstin
The class voted for two eco reps to represent the class at eco meetings. After an extremely close secret vote, Kirstin and Harry were voted by the rest of the class. Well done to you both!
When I asked the children about their favourite things we have covered in class week, some of the responses were:
Jay – I liked the Big Write lesson this week on writing a thank-you letter. I liked this because we could choose to write to our friends or family.
Neve – I really liked the maths assessments this week because they teased my brain!
Hary – I liked the time assessments this week because I like using clocks.
Robbie – I loved doing the chimney t-shirt subtraction sums. They started off really tricky because we hadn’t done them before and exchanging numbers was hard. By the end of it, I understood what I had to do.
Rachael – I always love doing handwriting because I like to see how I have improved since I started learning to use cursive handwriting.
Scott – Doing the fact files on Mary, Queen of Scots was really fun. I liked researching using the computers.
Emma – Scottish country dancing was really good fun this week. I liked learning different dances.
Kirstin – I liked the raffle this week because I won a prize with a ticket that I had forgotten I had!
Neive – I liked doing the big (SWST) spelling tests this week because I got to do two of them and I could see how much better my spelling was than before.
Next week, look out for homework being given out on Monday. The big talk homework for next week will be similar to this week, although we will be focusing on writing a formal letter which is slightly different to the informal letter that we wrote this week.
Making Healthy Choices
The children and I had a lengthy discussion this week about healthy eating and how we could improve our diet for the new year. We are going to have a display in the classroom showing how many people bring fruit as a snack instead of crisps or sweeties. I would really appreciate your support in this. Many children throughout the school bring quite a lot to eat, when really, one item would be sufficient. A piece of fruit is a healthy alternative for a snack and will easily keep children going between breakfast and lunch. I have also reiterated that the children should ONLY bring water to drink in class. More and more children have been bringing juice and this does not help their learning. When you drink anything with sugar, (including diluting juice with ‘no added sugar’) your body treats this as food and you receive a ‘sugar high’ from this drink. After the high of the sugar comes a dip in energy levels causing lots of children to become more tired than before. Therefore, water will be the only accepted drink during class. The children are welcome to bring fruit juice or diluting juice to drink with their lunch or snack however this will only be given to them at snack or lunch time. Water (not flavoured) which helps the body and brain to remain hydrated, will be available to the children throughout the day from the water bottles they bring from home.
I really appreciate your support in this matter.
Have a fantastic weekend,
Mrs Vince
