Our P3s kicked off this week with a fling! We really enjoyed putting our new ukulele skills into practice by participating in the ‘Ukulele Fling’ showcase at the Howden Park Centre. We will try to see if Mr. Robertson managed to snap any photos and will add these to Dojo.

In Maths with Mrs. Blair, we are continuing to work on money. The next steps in our learning will be learning to calculate change. This is a very important skill that will help us in everyday life. In Numeracy with Mrs. Robertson, we have been working on vertical addition (chimney sums). We are getting much better at laying out our sums correctly, paying attention to the place value columns. We learned that putting digits in the wrong columns can make our answers totally different! The next step in our learning  is to use estimation to help us to check our answers in addition. We have used estimation previously when learning about measurement so we are linking our learning across Maths concepts.

In Literacy with Mrs. Robertson, we are continuing our work on nouns and pronouns. This week we learned about collective nouns. Did you know the collective noun for a group of hedgehogs is a prickle of hedgehogs? We found this very interesting and had lots of great discussions about the different collective nouns. With Mrs. Blair we have finished writing our reports on the Fashion Show and some of them are displayed in the classroom.

In Art with Miss Harvey we are entering The Tesco Bank Art Competition for schools in partnership with the National Galleries. There are different themes for our entries; Primary 3s theme is ‘Mermaids and Pirates’ and the Primary 4s theme is ‘Transported’. This competition gives us the chance to be very creative and think of our own original ideas. For further information please follow the link https://www.nationalgalleries.org/education/how-to-enter/

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to our class Dojo. I hope you are enjoying following your child’s progress and seeing photos of their work. For anyone that hasn’t signed up yet please do so. It’s so easy to do! If anyone has misplaced their code then please let me know and I can get one to you.
