Primary 1 update

Primary 1 have been busy this week.

We have learnt a new sound this week, it was j.  When learning about our new sound we did many activities.  One included finding j’s and J’s in jelly.  We used jellybeans in an experiment that the children loved.

We also have been continuing to practice blending our sounds together to make words.  This is a daily practice for us.

In our writing this week we wrote about one thing we had learnt in our Scottish topic.  Some of the children told me that they learnt about the flag which was clue and white.  Others wrote about the national flower thistles.  This week in our Vibrant Vocabulary we used the stimulus Hector and the Big Bad Knight.  The words we enjoyed learning this week were bothersome, galloped, hollered, humongous and spindly.

In PE, we were learning to use our body in different ways whilst working as a team.

In Maths we began to look at direction and looked at the different language we can use.  Also, we were learning to add with concentration on double number adding.  We began to look at subtracting small numbers too.

Primary 1 had a special visitor get delivered this week.  A friendly dragon wrote a letter telling us that Fairyland had been destroyed and we need to help rebuild it.  Also, the dragon left a parcel it was her baby dragon which the children chose to call Rose.  Some of you may have already met her as some children have had her home already to look after.  If you haven’t she will be home with you at some point.

We were outdoors this week, we made nests from natural resources outside for our eggs.  The children all enjoyed this and worked hard at finding warm material for their nest.

Remember this Thursday is World Book day and you can dress up as your favourite character from a book you like to read.
