P7/6 – Term 2 Week 1

We all arrived safely back for Term 2 after a relaxing holiday week. This week we have had a safety focus on Bonfire Night and how to keep safe around bonfires and fireworks. We decided as a class that is safest to attend a fireworks display. We were shocked at some of the images of burns and injured people that we saw in the Fire Service’s powerpoint presentation and we are all going to remember to stay safe.

In Literacy this week we were introduced to task maps which accompany particular texts. This week our text was the song ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry. We learned about similes and metaphors and then had to be detectives and find all of the similes and metaphors in the song. There were loads!

In Maths, we have been revisiting recognising and naming 2D and 3D shapes. We were all brilliant at 2D shapes and learned lots about 3D shapes such as recognising different types of prisms. P7s have finished their block of Measurement teaching with the Broxburn Academy staff by being able to understand different units of measurement associated with capacity.

This week we also had our very first rehearsal of our Pantomime ‘Puss in Boots.’ We are busy learning all of the songs and we even got to see Scene 1 acted out on the stage. We all need to work together to pull off a performance in 8 weeks time.

On Friday morning some of us created Halloween Monsters with P2/1. This was a great activity which we helped the P2/1 class with. We helped them sponge paint, cellotape and glue resources. Mrs Weir and Mrs Robertson were impressed with the final results. Some of the P7s also helped Primary 1 learn their lines for their assembly and with their People Who Help Us topic.
