Spring is Springing…

The children completed their Castles Topic with growing their own Beanstalks! We have discussed that we will have to look after our seeds and it will take a long time before we begin to see anything happening! The children loved their Castles Topic and we have been talking about the favourite things they have learned. You will see in the Home Learning that there is one final Castles task, to build your own Castle! Please note the children have 3 weeks to complete this! I look forward to seeing the finished Castles during our Show and Tell. I might even get a special visitor to come and judge them!

Our new Topic, and the Topic for our Assembly which is coming up just after the holidays, is Spring. Next week the children are going to learn all about Spring and we will begin to think about our Assembly. Look out for words coming home for some of the children to learn. There will also be acting parts so everybody will have a special part to play! I will also be sending song words home for the children to learn at home! Happy singing! Both songs can be found on you tube if you need help with the tunes! (Spring Chicken and Spring is Here!)

In Maths the P2 children have been working hard learning their numbers to 100 and thinking about before, after, in between, more than and less than! We will continue with this over the next few weeks. Some of the P1 children have been adding within 20, linking in with the subtraction work they have been doing. They have been using number lines and cubes to help them, Again, this will continue for the next few weeks. The rest of P1 have been working on addition within 10 and next week will move on to a bit of subtraction work using lost of different concrete materials to help us.

Please can you make sure your child brings in their Reading folder with their Reading Record in it everyday to school. Thank you.

In P.E. we have started to learn some hockey skills. We learned how to hold the stick, move the beanbag around and pass and stop the beanbag. We talked about the shape of the stick and how the one we used looked like an Ice Hockey stick! Mrs Stenhouse is going to try and find her Ice Hockey stick at home to show us how big the sticks are! (She doesn’t play the sport, she just spent many years watching it!)  We learned there are different kinds of stick, but how to use them safely in the hall.
