A lot of learning in P7

We have had lots going on in Primary 7 this week. We have had lots of discussion around the different levels which we are working at in literacy and maths. In maths we completed a holistic question which we are getting better at understanding. In writing, we were assessed using criteria and had to write imaginative stories about The Blitz.

The focus of our topic this week has been The Blitz. We have learned that it was a period of time where London and other cities were under attack constantly from bombs. We were able to base our imaginative writing on this and we all tried really hard to include lots of new vocabulary in our stories. In art, we started making a ‘Blitz-scape’ where we had to create a background of bombing and a silhouette of a town/city. We are looking forward to making a larger version of this for our topic wall. These should be completed and on our wall next week and we will post some photos. We have now displayed some of our Propaganda posters in our classroom. We have also started reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ as our class novel and we have been making predictions about what is going to happen next.

Primary 7 also started a new slot of ‘Reading Rounds’ this week. This is where we have to pair up to read and discuss our novels with our partners. At the end we have to evaluate how we think we have done. Most of us enjoyed this and liked reading to our partners instead of a large group.

We also had a performance of ‘Oor Rabbie’ where we learned a little about the life of Robert Burns and more about the story of Tam O’Shanter. We all agreed that this was very good.

A huge well done to all P7 pupils who worked hard to learn their Scots poems and recite them to the year group this week. Some people had worked really hard to add expression and gesture to their recital. Our P7 finalists are Leah Cr, Holly and Eilidh. Well done girls!
