This week, to celebrate his 100th birthday, we have had a focus on the work of Roald Dahl.  We read the description of Miss Trunchbull’s chokey – which was really scary!  Broken glass and jaggy nails!  Some of us have designed a chokey for the classroom, and we are going to build the one we think is best.  We’re not allowed to use nails or glass, but we have decided there should be a shelf for jotters so that people can still do some work!

In writing, we tried to create a relaxed atmosphere with some carefully draped scarves, some candles and Mozart!  Most of us agreed that this helped us to keep focus on our writing.  We wrote an imaginative story, describing the best dream that the BFG could blow through our window.  The stories featured many things including a rainbow portal, eating lots of sweeties and even scoring the winning goal for Scotland in the World Cup!

In art, we used the work of illustrator Quentin Blake as our inspiration.  We sketched our favourite Roald Dahl character, then used a colour wash before picking out the details with fine black pens.  We have also started our Christmas cards (and enjoyed singing our wee hearts out to some Christmas songs while doing this!) so look out for these coming home next week.

In maths, we have continued to focus on the formal written method for addition and we are making good progress.  We will do some further practice on this, before moving on to subtraction.

It was great to see so many parents, carers and friends come along to ‘Meet The Teacher’ – the classroom was extremely busy! Thank you to all who were able to attend.
