This week in P4 we:
- Explored Time in Maths, we learned how to use a calendar to plan and record events
- Learned how to draw Buckingham Palace focusing on line and scale
- Created an information leaflet about London
- Shared our amazing class talks
- Enjoyed Reward Afternoon, the Red house won this term so they got an extra special treat! Well done red house!
Week beginning the 2nd October 2017
This week we:
· Had a fantastic time orienteering, on a lovely autumn day, with the Ranger at Rosemount Park – we even managed to solve the final clue
· Learned how to visualise in reading – we were very excited to learn that we can make our own movies in our head as we read
· Revised rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 in numeracy
· Researched London as part of our BFG topic, we look forward to creating information leaflets using the information we found online

We’ve had a very busy week in Primary 4!
This week we:
• Learned how to estimate and round to the nearest 10 in numeracy
• Wrote extremely interested setting descriptions about “Giant Country”
• Enjoyed learning new songs at NYCOS with Mrs Curle
• Continued to explore sound in science, we created our own telephone cups to investigate how sound travels
• Learned how to paint using watercolours

This week in Primary 4 we: • Completed Maths Week challenges. We learned that mistakes help us to learn and when we believe we can achieve. We also learned thinking time is very important. “Slow and steady wins the race.” • Created a giant character which will feature in one of our stories • Watched an author’s live to celebrate Roald Dahl Day 2017 – we completed a quiz to find out what character we were. • Attended a Traveling Tuba Concert “This week was maths crazy” Nikos “This week was really fun” Lola “This week was fun, educational and awesome” Sam

We’ve had a very exciting start to Primary 4!
All pupils have settled in well and are already enjoying the challenges of P4. We have been busy creating our Harry Potter themed class charter. We learned all about the rights we have and how important it is to respect other people’s rights too.
We have also been learning about place value in numeracy, this year we will be working with numbers to 10,000. In Big Writing we have been showing Mrs Farrell how well we can write imaginative stories.
Our first topic is “The BFG.” Mrs Farrell has already started reading the story to us and it is very funny.

This week we:
- Enjoyed performing as part of the pirate and sailor crews at the school show
- Helped Mrs Farrell to prepare refreshments for the interval at the evening performance
- Completed a fidget spinner maths challenge
Week beginning the 12th June 2017
This week we:
- Learned about position and movement in maths, we looked at angles and coordinates on pirate treasure maps
- Wrote detailed imaginative stories about a Pirate Adventure
- Thought of active ways to practise our spelling words outside – making the most of the sunshine when it appeared
- Rehearsed for the school show and enjoyed having the opportunity to watch it all the way through
Week beginning the 5th June 2017
This week P4:
- Attended the Book Festival and got to meet the Author Alan Dapre, we really enjoyed listening to him reading extracts from his novels and we got the chance to buy our own copy of a novel that he signed
- We learned about symmetry in Maths
- We learned out the General Election and created our own political parties with a logo
- We have also been busy rehearsing for the school show
Week beginning the 15th May 2017
We had a visit from Amy’s mum who works for RBS. She helped us to learn about budgeting and we planned a party spending under £100. We got a great goody bag from RBS at the end of Mrs Ganner’s visit.
We also went swimming at Xcite and some of us attended Mass at St Michael’s on Thursday morning and afterwards rehearsed for our First Holy Communion.
Mrs Moore visited us on Friday and we worked very hard to prepare a little drama for her. It was great to see Mrs Moore again!
Week beginning the 8th May 2017
This week we:
- Focused on setting in our imaginative writing we learned how to create interesting setting descriptions and look forward to transferring this into our stories
- We explored analogue and digital time
- On Wednesday we participated in a beautiful May Procession to honour Our Lady
- We completed two more exciting missions in topic – with Mrs Farrell we created weapons using outdoor materials and with Mrs Scott we created pirate ships and investigated whether they floated or not

During our short week we have been busy:
- Learning about time in Maths
- Creating interesting setting descriptions in Big Writing
- Exploring the lifestyle of pirates during our IDL missions – we made Rock Cakes and learned about the jobs pirates have on board the pirate ship

This week we began our exciting new topic – A Pirate Adventure.
In Big Writing we created our own interesting pirate character and wrote an imaginative story containing this character.
In Maths we worked on finding change from £1, £2, £5 and even £10.
Our IDL missions this week involved creating Pirate portraits and using drama to apply to become a Pirate.
Mrs Lyons joined us on Friday to teach us French.

We have had a very busy week back at school.
We began CEM testing and will continue this next week.
We had a Shiny Friday and had a great day at our committees and masterclasses.

- Researched Roman Gods and Goddesses
- Explored money in Maths and thought of strategies to learn the 9 times table

- In Big Writing we wrote a newspaper article about a ‘Missing Roman Chariot’
- We consolidated our learning of fractions and created fraction posters
- We created outdoor bar charts as part of information handling in Maths
- Had our first Pirates of the Currybean rehearsals after school
- Discussed the seven sacraments in Confirmation preparations and begun to think about our sponsors

- We continued to explore fractions, we have had the opportunity to play lots of games and share our learning. Mrs Farrell was so impressed by the excellent say, write, make, do home learning this week – we are all so creative!

- We created our very own Roman mosaics

- wrote instructions about how to make pancakes

- started learning about the Romans. This week we learned about the Roman Empire.
- had a fencing taster session. It was so fun!
We had our third Shiny Friday of P4. We really enjoyed it!

We have had a very exciting week in P4. Our highlights include…
- Mr Byrne (Josie’s dad) visiting our class to talk to us about our Interesting Inventors topic. Josie’s dad is an engineer and was telling us all about the steam engine.
- Our P4 and P5 Christmas party – we were having so much fun that we didn’t even hear the bell ring at the end of the day!
- Going to see the Red Riding Hood Panto

- we began learning how to subtract 3 digit numbers using chimney sums
- learned about the gifts of the Holy Spirit as part of our Confirmation preparation

- Enjoyed our delicious Christmas lunch and had a great time at the Christmas Fayre.

- Participated in various Book Week Scotland activities – we really enjoyed paired reading with P5 and creating human letters spelling the word ”read”
- Learned about the illustrator Nick Sharratt, we recreated some of his famous illustrations
- Explored mental strategies for subtracting 2 digit numbers
- Continued to learn about the ways in which the Holy Spirit guides us in our lives, during Confirmation preparations

This week P4 have learned:
- How to complete 3 digit chimney sums with bridging
- About the inventor Alexander Graham Bell – he invented the telephone
- About sounds and how they travel. We created string telephones to help us with this
- About the features of a newspaper report.
- About the story of St Margaret, we recalled this story through drama

- Created fact files about John Logie Baird. We found out that he invented the TV but it looked very different to the TVs we have today
- Wrote imaginative stories about an inventors house
- Have been learning our Christmas song and sang it in front of the full school

This week:
- We enjoyed focusing on money with Mrs McEwan at assembly and have also been learning about money during Maths.
- In Big Writing we focused on “wow words” and used an autumn picture as a stimulus
- We created lots of lovely Rainforest art work to finish off our topic. We have really enjoyed learning about the Rainforest but we are excited to find out what our next topic is.
We also enjoyed our Shiny Friday and had great fun at our committees and masterclasses.

Week beginning the 3rd october 2016
We have had a busy week again in P4.
This week:
- In Maths we have been focusing on our 6 times table. We also completed our Place Value assessment and we are excited to find out what our next Maths topic is.
- In Big Writing we wrote letters to Mr Cutter trying to persuade him to stop chopping down trees in the Rainforest.
- In RE we learned that we honour Mary in a special way during the month of October. We wrote beautiful prayers to Our Lady.
On Friday we enjoyed sharing our learning with our family members.
Week beginning the 26th September 2016
This week we have been learning our six times table. “I enjoyed the song that we learned.” Natalie
We have been learning how to count to 50 in French. “It was fun because we learned these numbers by listening to a song.” Aiden
We had a fantastic time at NYCOS learning about rhythm and beat. “I enjoyed the song about the train on the Linlithgow line” Nikhil
We have also been learning about the rights we have. We used drama to learn about this. Our favourite was the right to a name. We are going to work on making sure we call everyone by their name, no “shes” or “hes”.
We had a fabulous morning on Friday at the Macmillan Coffee Morning, we look forward to hearing how much money was raised for such a great cause.
Week beginning the 21st September 2016
We have had a busy few days in P4 after the long weekend! On Wednesday we took part in an exciting full school workout to raise money for Lepra. We really enjoyed this.
Wednesday was also International Peace Day, we enjoyed learning about this. We watched videos which showed us how people celebrate this day all over the world. We decided to get messy and created a hand print collage as our message of hope.
In literacy we have been focusing on grammar, now that we are in P4 we are working on writing super sentences in all of our writing.
We also began our Big Maths this week. We are looking forward to beating our scores each week!
Well done to everyone who created a Rainforest Diorama! We really enjoyed hearing about all of the hard work people put into making these. We were super impressed that everyone managed to recycle objects from home.
Week beginning the 5th September 2016
Our new interdisciplinary topic is The Rainforest. We have enjoyed learning about the different layers and some of the animals that live there.
This week:
- We have been learning about Place Value, working with numbers to 10,000.
- We wrote descriptive poems about a journey to The Rainforest.
- We created some lovely Rainforest paintings, using the artist Henry Rousseau for inspiration.
This week we had our very first Shiny Friday of P4. We enjoyed taking part in our new Committees and Masterclasses.
Week beginning the 13th June 2016
This week has been action packed! We enjoyed performing our Bugsy Malone song for family and friends. On Tuesday we celebrated The Marches too. In maths this week we have started a project looking at how to raise money, save money, budget and book a holiday (don’t worry we won’t actually book it, Mrs Wilson has hid her purse). We have used this project to write persuasive leaflets based on a destination of our choice. We have a lot of creative leaflets at the design stage currently, we can’t wait to share these with a class and get some feedback on them. Finally we have used our skills of note taking to record information about Walt Disney’s life. Did you know…the original name for Mickey Mouse was Mortimer, but his wife, Lillian, didn’t like the name and suggested Mickey.
Week beginning the 6th June 2016
Primary 4 have enjoyed counting their money from a successful Dragons’ Den Bake Sale. We learned all about profit and loss and were pleased to find that no company experienced a loss! We enjoyed our moving up morning and our team building challenge of creating the tallest freestanding marshmallow tower! In P.E Mrs McMaster was very impressed with our tennis skills. We had a great Planet Picnic on Thursday too with family and friends.

This week the Sacramental and Liturgy Team helped to organise a beautiful May Procession. This helped build our confidence when reading in front of a large audience. In Big writing this week we focused on developing our persuasive writing skills, we enjoyed working in groups to persuade each other. In Maths this week we have established Dragons’ Den groups, decided on our two products and started to conduct market research. We can’t wait to put our findings together and present this to the Dragons’ next week! During our ‘Inside out’ mini topic we learned about different types of emotions and what facial expression matched this emotion – we enjoyed creating two ‘emotion faces’ that we will display for people to guess the emotion…can you guess the correct emotion?

Week beginning the 18th May 2016
This week Primary 4 have had great fun during Health and Well-being Celebrations week! We learned a lot about Farm to Fork with our visit from the Tesco ladies, we had great fun football and rugby training and we are looking forward to our Sports Quiz on Friday. We have also started some Adaptive CEM Testing this week and will continue this in stages over the next week. The Sacramental group are very excited about their First Communion tomorrow and we have been supporting them in class and learning all about how to receive Holy Communion.

We’ve learned how to recount dreams and are now redrafting them onto a computer using word.
We’ve been learning about polygons and what the word polygon means. It means ‘many angles or corners’.
We completed a smile mile yesterday with the P3’s and took lots of photos.
We entered the young writer contest a while ago and Hannah was one of the winners out of 50 schools and 7200 pupils!

Week beginning the 4th May 2016
This week we enjoyed our Tour of the Church with Father Paul. We learned about all the different items in the church and the proper names. Findlay played the organ and we were very impressed. Father Paul told us the organ is only 1 of 2 in the country and insured for a lot of money.
We also enjoyed learning about magnets and could teach a friend what side of the magnet to use. We wrote stories this week about the Olympic athlete Derek Redmond and how he never gave up during the 1992 Olympic 400m sprint.

This week in R.E we learned all about Mass and practised our responses. In Science we compared how things move on different surfaces and all about what friction is! This week in Big Writing we watched an inspiration video about an athlete not giving up. We imagined that we were writing the story as if we were the athlete. In Maths, we practised our written sums using Speedy Col. We enjoyed practising our fine motor skills to improve our handwriting. This week 12 children made their Confirmation with Archbiship Leo. It was a very special service. In Science we investigated the forces made by toys we brought in from home. This week in PE we enjoyed outdoor learning and practising our skipping skills. In Maths, we learned all about perimeter and how to calculate this. In French this week we put our café vocabulary into practise by designing our own café menu! This week in Primary 4 we have been learning about poetry techniques. In science this week we investigated and found worms. In Maths, we could teach a friend how to create Fraction Fish by folding circles into fractions. We enjoyed creating constellation booklets by researching. This week we learned how to become a journalist for the News. We practised our note taking using a music video. In science this week we have been learning all about the layers of soil. This week in handwriting we focused on joining the letter f. Some children have been given a pen licence to use in their next handwriting piece because they achieved their recipe for success. This week in outdoor learning we enjoyed orienteering and skipping! In Maths, we could teach a friend how to measure strips of paper into fractions and create a fraction wall. We also revised our learning of time! We read a book called ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ it encouraged us to express daily kindness, appreciation, and love to each other. This week we put our debating skills into practise with a Boxing Match Debate. In writing we have learned to use the authors style to create our own poems! This week in writing we have learned to use the authors style to create our own poems! We enjoyed Cailtlin’s performance of ‘Louder’ where she projected her voice and used good expression. In Science this week we have been learning all about soil samples by digging!! In Maths we could teach a friend all about probability. This is all about the chance of things happening. For example…there’s a poor chance of winning the lottery but a certain chance that tomorrow is the weekend! We loved our school trip to the Glasgow Science Centre. Hannah – ‘My favourite part was The Planetarium and star gazing’. Holly – ‘My favourite part was learning about the human body by doing all the different experiments.’

This week we put our debating skills into practise with a Boxing Match Debate. In Spelling we could teach a friend how to change singular words to plurals using this rule: -Words that have a consonant before a ‘y’ change to an ‘i’,- Words that have a vowel before the ‘y’ do not. In Art we created rock drawings to experiment and find out how lines can be used to create patterns and textures. We enjoyed sorting rocks using a Venn Diagram. In Maths we could teach a friend how to identify and create patterns using rules! We used HOTs Questions during Book Detectives and completed a HOTs activity on Andy Warhol after reading. We have learned about the importance of good openers in imaginative writing. We liked writing our stories about Mrs Wilson’s Secret Life. We used the authors story setting. We started with Mrs Wilson living at school with all the other teachers… Highlights of our week…“Values lunch” Hannah . “Being a VIP” Aiyanna and Reece . “I liked reading and PE this week” Gerard. “My highlight was Big writing and PE” Breandán.

Primary 4 have been learning how to put their debating skills into practise during a real debate. We have learned how to use descriptive vocabulary to create a cinquain poem using just 5 lines. We could teach a friend some French songs and also explain to them some Bible stories about John the Baptist. In PE we developed our Hockey skills.
Week beginning the 8th Febraury 2016
This week in writing we enjoyed our VCOP activities and creating interesting characters for our imaginative story ‘Toys in Space’.We used WWW and EBI to reflect on our stories. In Book Detectives this week we have learned how to use a thesaurus to uplevel words. When reading we focused on reflections using our thought bubbles. In Maths we taught Otto how to describe a route using clockwise and anticlockwise turns. We really enjoyed learning about angle names using The Angle Family (Mr Obtuse, Mrs Right, Baby Acute and Reflex the dog). We also learned how to use maths vocabulary to write calculations for word problems. In Science we have been learning how fossils form and all about the rock cycle. In RE we learned that the Holy Spirit brings gifts and that these gifts will bear fruit in our lives.

This week in writing we have focused on VCOP in our writing. We learnt the VCOP song. We also learnt some Karate moves for our punctuation. We wrote a story about our time in space. In Maths we continued to learn about maps and compass points. In Science we found out about Galileao and the first telescope and created our own rockets from our design plan.

This week Primary 4 sang at our Burns’ Assembly we sang ‘Charlie is my Darling’ and ‘My love is like a Red , Red, Rose’ we really enjoyed performing. In Topic we planned our rockets. In Maths we found out about grid systems. Our parents visited our class to find out Book Detectives. We got passwords and usernames for Sumdog Maths games. In Pe we played Hockey.

This week in P4 we made a volcano erupt! We learned about gravity, we found out about rocky plants. We started to write our letter to Mrs Moore.

Happy New Year! This week we met our new teacher Mrs Wilson. We are happy that we will also have Mrs Huxley on Thursday so we are very lucky. We found out about our new topic which is Mission Space. We investigated the different types of rocks that make up the earth’s crust. We have been setting targets for this term. We are looking forward to finding out more about the Solar System!

Merry Christmas everyone!
This week we have been painting snowflakes, we have created symmetry patterns, we have been looking at 3D shapes and their properties. We have been learning about Christmas past and Christmas present. In Big writing we have been writing a story about what could go wrong before Christmas.
We also performed our nativity in the church and at school. We sang ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ it was really fun!!

Hi everyone, this week in P4 we have practised our Nativity at school.
We also walked to the church are practised there! We had our Chirstmas lunches which were really nice.

We found out about the lightbulb and its inventor Thomas Edison.
We played Victorian games such as marbles, skipping and Diabolo.
We created out tulips and Antibullying posters.

We loved having our school photos taken !!
