Primary 3 – Welcome to Mrs Scott and Mrs Telfer’s class
Week beginning the 9th October 2017
It’s been the last week of our first term in Primary 3. Our highlights of the week include:
· On Monday and Tuesday we learnt about the creation story and made mobiles. We also did a word search and crossword about creation.
· We wrote imaginative stories about a scarecrow coming alive.
· We had a reward afternoon and watched ‘Sing’ in the hall.
· In maths we have been learning about capacity and measuring water.
· We also did some revision work on Number in maths.
Week beginning the 2nd October 2017
This week as usual we have been very busy. Our highlights of the week include:
· We went to the park with some rangers and made some homes for animals out of things we found.
· We have been designing Christmas cards and listening to Christmas music. Mrs Waddell wasn’t happy!
· Mrs Hughes came in and told us more about Mary’s Meals and answered our questions
· We played some French games outside
· We had our spelling test
· In Maths we played bingo, rounding numbers to the nearest 10.
Week beginning the 25th September 2017
Primary 2 went with the Linlithgow Rangers to Rosemount Park to find out about animals living in the woods. We found out about badgers, squirrels, spiders, rabbits, bats and owls. We learned how to word build with the oa/ow sound and about the features of a non-fiction book. In Science we sorted materials into manmade and natural categories. In maths we were adding two single digits within 20 bridging 10.
This week we have been learning all about Mary’s Meals and we created maps of where the charity works and created
powerpoints about the meals they provide. Anthony showed us a certificate which he was given for raising money for
the charity last year. We made a display of our work. It was our harvest assembly this week. The garden gang
collected lots of fruit and vegetables. We got to taste some of the apples and carrots. In Maths we have been looking at number lines, working out numbers half way between, estimating numbers and rounding numbers to the nearest 10. We looked at the potatoes on which we had grown mold. It reminds us that germs are everywhere and we must wash our hands properly. Ellie showed us some conkers she had found. Lots of us want to go and find some of our own conkers. On Thursday Mrs Cherry came in and did a news plan with us. We are looking forward to the bake sale later today.
Week Beginning the 11th September 2017.
Rosa and Bruce showed us their medals. They had both cycled 10 miles at the Pedal for Scotland event. Our Water is Life posters are on display in the class. They tell us how not all children have good access to clean water. On Wednesday we saw a performance from ‘Travel by Tuba’. It was spectacular. They played lots of different instruments from around the world. Bo, Izzy, Connell and Finlay had the opportunity to try playing some of them. Mrs Wilson came in and showed us her baby ‘Amelia’. It was lovely to see her. We talked about different people who help us have our rights. We are doing an experiment to grow mold and find out why it is so important to wash our hands. On Thursday lots of parents came in to meet our teacher. Today we had our first Shiny Friday. We went to our new committees and masterclasses and we can’t wait for the next one.
Week Beginning the 4th September 2017.
We have had a great start to P6. Our topic this term is The Nowhere Emporium. We have been reading the book and learning about Daniel Holmes and his adventures in The Nowhere Emporium. In Math, we have been doing place value, learning how to add 1,10,100,1 000 and 100 000 to bigger numbers. We have been designing our own creatures using at least three different animals. After we had finished designing them we wrote a descriptive paragraph of writing about them. We have also been writing a story about our summer holidays. We have created pictures titled ‘Through the Keyhole’ and close up images of our mythical creature. Blog entry written by Hannah and Anna.

We hope you all had a super Summer Holiday!
It’s been a great first couple of weeks in Primary 3. We have two new faces to the school in our class. There is our new teacher ‘Mr Brice’ and we have also welcomed Bo to our class.
In our first week we made our own sunglasses, writing about what we did in our holidays and drawing pictures to go with them. We came up with rules for our classroom and discussed our Golden Rules, which we then created posters of.
It was great learning about each other through our shoe box challenge this week and everyone brought in some fantastic things to share with the class.
Our topic for the next few weeks is ‘Children’s Rights’. This week we talked about our wants and needs. Needs were things that every child in the world should have.
We have a new music teacher, Mrs Bain, who we will be working with each Tuesday. We also have PE on Tuesday and Thursday with Mrs McMaster.
We look forward to the rest of our year in Primary 3.
Week beginning the 12th June 2017
Our week of learning in P3:
- In maths we learned how to estimate, compare and measure volume and capacity using different containers and rice. We challenged ourselves by measuring in litres and millilitres.
- To help us with our reading and writing we learned about alliteration. We got to make up our own alliteration that we could use in our writing.
- We have been using our problem solving skills to design and create a pirate puppet. We can’t wait to use them in a pirate drama!
- In writing, we made our own newspaper article about the missing booty that was stolen from Pirate Redbeard’s ship. He sent us a letter to tell us all about it.
- We are still busy practising our songs for the school show; we are so excited for next week!
Week beginning the 5th June 2017
We have been super busy in Primary 3 this week! Here are a few things we have been up to:
- Using our research skills to find out about famous pirate battles.
- In maths, we learned how to estimate, measure and compare using grams and kilograms. We had lots of fun using the skills to weigh real life objects.
- In writing we got to put all our story skills together that we have been learning this term and made our own pirate adventure story.
- We are still practicing the songs for our school show, we are so excited for it!
- In science, we have been learning about our lungs and how to keep them healthy. We made some posters to display our learning.

This week in Primary 3, we have;
- Made a pirate hat
- Learned amp skills by creating our own treasure amps and went on a treasure hunt.
- Practiced our performance for Mrs Moore’s assembly.
- Played the ukele in music with Mrs Sharpe.
- Used line drawing to make a skull.
- Using and creating grid systems in Maths.
- We made a friendship treasure chest.
- Described story setting in writing.
Week beginning the 8th May 2017
This week in Primary 3, we have been;
- Learning to divide using arrays and groupings. It has been very exciting as we have been set pirate missions to complete.
- Learning to use speech marks in our writing. Miss Redmond let us use macaroni pasta to punctuate some pieces of writing.
- Using descriptive language to create pirate wanted posters.
- Using active spelling activities to learn put spelling rules.
Mrs Scott- we were set a design mission, to make a pirate ship to carry treasure using a range of materials. We had to test the materials to see which would be the most appropriate and then predict how many treasure coins our ship could hold.
Mrs Farrell- we had to source materials from outside in our playground to build a weapon to protect our pirate ship.
Week beginning the 2nd May 2017
This week in Primary 3 we have been;
- Learning to group items equally in Maths.
- Learning what makes a good poster to attract people. We create our own pirate poster to attract new crew to our pirate ship.
- Learning more about the lifestyle of pirates. With Mrs Farrell we found out about pirate jobs and made pirate raps. With Miss Redmond, things got messy and we made pirate snacks called Hardtack biscuits.

Welcome back ,this week in P3 we have been;
- Learning how to answer and create multiplication word problems in Maths. We can now challenge ourselves with a choice of mild, medium and hot chilli challenges.
- Focusing on writing good openings to our story about a Pirate Adventure.
- Learning about who pirates were and what they were like during joint topic afternoons with P4. With Miss Redmond we interviewed to become pirates and with Mrs Farrell we discovered our pirate names and draw a pirate for display.
- Creating parrots in Art
- Learning a new song and actions in Music that starts with a low pitch and moves to a high pitch.
- Learning a new outdoor games called ‘Rotten apples’

In Primary 3 this week, we have been;
- Enjoying preparing and participating in the St Joseph’s Day Mass.
- Learning about the Space race between America and Russia.
- Making our own rockets and raced them using balloons, string and straws. Russia won during our racing.
- Exploring all things science on our fantastic school trip to Glasgow Science Centre.
- Using Numicons to show our understanding of fractions. Mrs Scott was very impressed.

- Giving very informative talks about what we have learnt about our topic Space

- Drawing our own rockets blasting into space using wax crayons and paint

- Being able to express our emotions in French.

- we loved the Pantomime of ‘Red Riding Hood’
- We wrote a story about ‘The Nightmare before Christmas’ and used the snowball technique to carry on someone’s story.

- Boogied away at our Christmas Party.
- Reviewed our term 2 targets.
- Created a range of Christmas crafts
- Went through a design process to design a top secret sleigh for santa.
- Participated in designing our Christmas slippers.

- Enjoyed taking part in a range of Book Week Scotland activities including; Illustrator competition, Book Swap, Drop Everything and Read, Lucky Dip Books, Paired reading with P6, Mysteries Readers, designed our own book covers and joined an Authors Live screening.
- Continued making products to sell at the Christmas fayre.
- Carried out Market research for pricing for Christmas fayre.
- Written a personal piece of writing ‘My Hero’.
- Practiced for the Nativity.

- Found out about what life was like in the Victorian times.

- Learnt about firework safety and created our own firework artwork.
- Focused on Remembrance in RE and discussed our earliest memory.
- Practiced our footwork skills at football training.

P3 Blog Update
In Primary 3 this week;
- We wrote imaginative stories all about ‘The Day I Became Invisible’. We tried hard to include paragraphs and a range of punctuation.
- We presented our Human Body solo talks. Miss Mulheron was impressed with the interesting information, props and eye contact.
- We created aboriginal artwork using paint and cotton buds.
- In Maths we planned a holiday using our money skills. We had to choose between camping and glamping options.
- In Drama, we created still pictures to show the story of ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Enormous Turnip’.

- We revised Time. We had great fun playing ‘Stop the clock’ against our classmates to win group points.
- In Writing, we focused on poems with alliteration and rhyming. We wrote our own summer holiday acrostic poems.

- We enjoyed performing in our P3 Showcase to the song ‘Fat Sam’s Grand Slam’.

This week in P3 we have been;
- Continuing exploring money. In our Maths carousel we found totals with different coins and notes.
- Learning about different aspects of poetry. We brought in our favourite poems and had a poetry reading outside. We then wrote our own poems using alliteration and rhyming.
- Learning about the different parts of the human ear.
- Learning about Pablo Picasso and even made our own interesting portraits in his style.
- Practicing our performance for our showcase
- Making fruit kebabs and had a picnic outside to enjoy them.

In Primary 3;
- We have been very busy this week with CEM testing.
- We have started to look at Money and are beginning to plan an event to give us the opportunity to handle money.
- In Writing, we have written an imaginative story about The Time Machine. We focused on writing in first person.
- In Grammar, we learned how to use apostrophes to contract words.
- We really joined our visit from Tesco on Monday. We even got to make our own healthy snack.
- In Science, we have found out all about the human eyes and learned to draw detailed diagrams.
- In Re, we have learned about the life of St Bernadettes and participated in a beautiful May procession.
Week beginning the 18th May 2016
This week we have;
- Been extremely active, taking part in a range of activities such as Rugby, Football and Zumba.
- We really enjoyed our talks from Mrs Cleland and Mrs Crichton about their interesting jobs.
- In Science, we have been exploring teeth and how to keep them healthy. We used mirrors to identify the 4 different types of teeth and ate apples to see what the different teeth do to food.
- In Maths, we have looked at halves and quarters. We enjoyed a range of carousel activities, especially the pizza making station using playdough.
In Writing, we wrote an imaginative story about, ‘If I ruled the world’

In Primary 3 this week we have;
- Explored multiplication and division word problems and created our own.
- Wrote imaginative stories about ‘The Special Dog’.
- Learnt about the different uses for commas.
- Found out about the Respiratory system.
- Used laptops to answer questions about the discovery of Penicillin.
- Built trust through team building games.
- Learnt about Our lady and how she wants us to live. We learnt the hymn ‘As I kneel before you’.
Week beginning the 4th May 2016
In Primary three this week, we have had a short but busy week. In writing, we used our imaginations to write about ‘My Teachers Secret Life’. Miss Mulheron wishes her life was so interesting. In Science, we explored skin and nerves. We carried out an investigation with cocktail sticks to test our nerves and how we feel things on our skin. In Art, we looked at the life of Monet and used his ‘Water Lillies’ painting as inspiration to paint our own.
Week beginning the 25th April 2016
We talked about how we liked sharing our learning with our parents and friends. In Maths we have been exploring multiplication and division. In writing this week, we have been looking at imaginative writing. We have been writing about interesting inventions. In Reading some groups have started literacy circles .We have also been learning how to identify and use direct speech. In Handwriting Primary 3 have been practising ‘e’ joins. We have been learning ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ in French. In Topic we have been looking at muscles in our bodies. We carried out an investigation to find out if boys are stronger than girls. In Art we found out about the 1920’s artist Piet Mondrain. We have tried to make similar art work to his.
Week beginning the 18th April 2015
In Maths we are have been learning the 7 times table. We have also been looking at Multiplication arrays. We made some multiplication arrays outside. This week we have been looking at imaginative writing. We watched a story starter video and had to continue the story. We tried hard to up-level our word choice. We have been learning how to use a thesaurus to find synonyms for common words. We explored the human skeleton this week. We had great fun making and labelling our own skeletons. We have been learning about pitch in Music this week.

Week beginning the 14th March 2016
In Maths we are have been creating Venn and Carroll diagrams. We made a huge Carroll diagram out in the playground. This week, we have looking at the features of a leaflet and writing information leaflets about the planets we created. We have been learning how to use a dictionary correctly to find the meanings of interesting words. This week, we used the internet to answer questions about the British astronaut, Tim Peake. We also took a quiz to see if we would make good astronauts. On Wednesday, we all had fun taking part in the P5/6 Sports Relief Challenge. Well Done to Kornel and Emma for receiving a certificate for Sports Relief.
Week beginning the 7th March 2016
In Maths we are exploring Time. We have been telling the time using 5 minute intervals. We have also created Carroll Diagrams. This week, we have been writing diary entries as if we were astronauts on a space station. We focused on writing in first person and setting out our writing correctly. On Tuesday, we made delicious fruit smoothies. We named it ‘Berry Blast’. We are exciting to make fruit kebabs next week. We have been training to become astronauts this week. We have discovered they have to be very fit and healthy. In small groups we used the internet to find interesting facts about space to share with the rest of the class. We have been exploring Binary stars and Black holes this week on our journey through space. We are proud of both Amy and Emma for winning prizes and a certificate for drawing trolls.
Week beginning the 29th February 2016
In Maths we were exploring Time. We have been telling the time using o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. In writing we have been working in small groups to write a short Dr Xarlge story. Miss Mulheron has been very impressed with our group work skills. We are starting to learn different skills to play Hockey. We were very excited about our school trip to Glasgow Science Centre on Wednesday. “It was the best day of my life” Kornel Spalony. In Music we have been learning new songs and actions to help identify tempo and rhythm. In Science we visited the Glasgoe Science centre and found out how lots of things worked. We liked the Singing Bowl, the Connecting Blocks, the Planetarium and the Mind Power games. On friday we went to our Committees and Mastercalsses. We have had a super fun week!

In Maths we were exploring Time. We have been telling the time using o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. During topic afternoon we have been learning about Mercury and Venus. We also found out about the Space Race and created our own race using balloons. In Art we have now finished our Alien Planets. Next week are will design 3D aliens that live on our planets. We have been focusing on creative writing this week. We had great fun planning and writing our own Dr Xargle stories. Our Reading focus this week was Story Mapping. We are learning about healthy eating and have written recipes for fruit smoothies that are are going to make next week. In PE, we have really enjoyed exploring different shapes our bodies can make in Gymnastics

Welcome back from our holiday weekend. This has been a short week. in Science we made our own planets. In Art we created aliens. In Literacy we wrote Acrostic poems. We also started to join up our writing.

welcome to Primary 3. This week Maths we have been learning to measure length accurately. We had to measure and design trousers for our alien friend, Barta. We have also been measuring different things around the school using metre sticks. In Science we have been learning about constellations. We used chalk to draw star sign constellations on the playground. In Art we made our bodies into constellations. In Literacy we have been focusing on creative writing this week. We had great fun planning and writing about ‘The Alien Planet’. In health and Well Being we were learning about healthy eating and balanced food plates. We enjoyed playing a games on Science Bug. In RE, we have been listening to ‘ The Lost Coin’ parable. Miss Mulheron hid coins around the classroom to show that it is difficult to find small things but like the story of the coin, God will always keep searching for us. We enjoyed trying some pancakes with jam to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

This week in Maths we have been learning how to weigh. In Science we have been learning about the first telescope that was invented by Galileo. We used our design sheet from last week to create our own rockets. In Art we have also been designing and creating rockets from scrap paper. We have fun planning and writing about ‘My Journey throughSpace’. We have made music from junk this week for our performance ‘What a lot of Rubbish’. In RE we have focused on showing mercy. We thought of a time when we had shown forgiveness. At lunch time some of drew the Soalr System outisde our classroom in chalk! Another busy week..

Primary 3 performed the ‘Welly Boot’ song at our Burns’ Assembly, it was great fun! In Maths we have been subtracting using chimney sums. We worked on our 6 times tables. In Topic we found out about rocky planets and gas planets We created space people, and we designed rockets. We created phases of the moon using oreos. In writing we wrote a biography about Neil Armstrong. It has been a great week.

This week in literacy we have been writing sun poems and learning about mnemonics.In maths we have been looking at subtracting and also learning the multiples of 10. In topic we have been finding out about rocky planets and have also made volcano’s. We have also have been doing solar system art.

Happy New Year. This week we found out about our new topic which is all about earth and it’s position in the Solar System. This week we found out all about the rocks which make up the earth’s crust! We are looking forward to finding out more about the Solar System. In Literacy we found out about expressing opinions. In Science we did a solids, liquids and gas experiment. We also had a music taster with NYCOS.
Week beginning the 7th December 2015
This week we made paper chains and a moveable santa. We investigated 2 and 3D shapes and learned our 9 times tables. We wrote a letter to Santa and made pasta wreaths…jingle bells, jingle bells!!
We also performed our Nativity in the church and at the school it was great fun! We remembered all our dance moves for ‘Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow……..’

We walked to the church are practised there! We also had our Chirstmas lunches which were great.
We made Victorian toys.
On Friday we wore Christmas jumpers, we sold our reindeeer soaps and bought toys and cakes at our Christams Fayre.

This week in Maths we have worked on our 9 times tables
We have added several numbers together.
In topic we have researched famous Victorians we looked at ‘I’m a famous Victorian get me out of here’.
In Science we looked at conductors and insulators.

This week in Primary three we found out about queen Victoria.
We found out what life was like to be a chimney sweep.
We used pyramid spelling to help us to remember how to spell words.
We talked about Bullying and created antibullying posters we also created tulips for our ‘ How Respect Grows’ wall display.
We created silhouette pictures.
We learned corodination and movement skills in PE.
