Week Beginning the 11th December

Its Christmas!!! This week we went to see Beauty and the Beast! It was really funny and the baddie was terrifying! On Wednesday we held our first performance of Grandpa’s Nativity Story and on Thursday we had our Christmas lunches and our second performance of the Nativity in the church.  We had great fun and the P1/2s were amazing, they remembered all of their words! On Friday we decorated our slippers and wore them in school, we brought in £1 to raise money for the homeless at Christmas! We were part of the choir and we were filmed for the West Lothian website so we will be famous!!

Here are some of our Christmas memories for 2017

Week beginning the 4th December 2017

What a Welcome!

We didn’t get a chance to update our blog last week because Glow was down so we have included some pictures of our  business enterprise Christmas Fayre event last         week.

We enjoyed selling all of the things we had made and we enjoyed working out our profit. We will let you know next week how much money our businesses made and how we intend to spend the money we made.

On Monday  we were very excited to hear about the birth of Mrs Scott’s  baby boy on Friday the 1st of December!

W were also delighted to meet our new teacher Mr Reed!

It has been a bust week on Monday we went to visit the Longcroft hall, where we were ‘Unwrapping Christmas’ by becoming involved in the Christmas story as well as participating in some lovely Christmas crafts which we were proud to take home.

With Nativity rehearsals in school and at the church it really feels like Christmas is in full swing.

In literacy we have been learning about Charles Dickens ‘Christmas Carol’ the children have been exploring different characters and the reasons why they behaved in a particular way.

In Maths we have been learning new ways to reinforce our times tables.

We have had a great week in P5 and are looking forward to our Nativity performance next week.

Week beginning the 4th December 2017

Glow was down last week so we didn’t get a chance to update our school blog.

Last week we got ready for our school Fayre. We priced books and toys and did some home baking which we priced on Friday morning. We used our money maths skills to run all the Christmas Fayre stalls. We had great fun and we raised  £194. 92. Thanks to all those who came to the Fayre for their support.

We continued with our World War 2 topic and found out about the reasons for and against the Treat of Versailles.

In Art – we sketched spitfires and we used blending and shading  to create Blitz pictures.

In Literacy – we finished our ‘Spy’ Stories’

In Maths  – we continued with our topic on Multiplication and Division.

In Health and Well being –  we had a  Food for Thought lesson from Tesco. We played board games that made us think about body image and the correct foods to eat. Then we designed our own posters to show what we had learned. The posters were judged by Tesco. Katy Murray and Lucy Williamson’s poster won  and their prize was a fruit basket which the girls kindly shared with the class.

In Music and Drama – we practised for our school Nativity we are looking forward to performing for our parents  and guardians next week.

P7 – Week beginning the 13th November

We’ve been busy in P7 this week – Here are some of the things we found out about…

  • In Maths – We found out how to multiply a 3 digit number by a 2 digit number
  • In Writing – We created our own poppy Concrete poems
  • In Reading – We investigated ‘Cause and Effect’
  • In Art – We studied facial proportions to help us to create a pencil portrait of Hilter
  • In Science – We investigated why some objects float and why some sink!
  • We completed our solo talks on the Titanic

We are now finally ready to move onto our next topic WW2!

Gardening Gang Friday the 10th November 2017

As it’s Poppy Week, some of our Master Gardener pupils and some new members of gardening gang had a look at our tyre planter full of poppies and we talked about the real flowers which inspired the paper symbols. Some of the pupils then planted tulip bulbs in our tyre planters so we’re hoping for a beautiful display in spring! And the others helped plant some flag iris and marsh marigold in our new wetland patch – parents dug the planter out and lined it with plastic this week to make the area around our little pond a boggy spot which we will fill with wetland plants, learn about the importance of wetlands to the environment – and perhaps even attract some wetland wildlife come spring!

Gardening Gang Friday the 3rd November 2017

This week gardening gang adult helpers painted the raised veg beds and put coloured gravel in the shapes on the ground – with the new chippings down it’s all looking very smart, do have a walk past and have a look.

Last week we welcomed 11 new gardening gang members who, with three of our Master Gardener pupils, helped collect nasturium, sweet pea, marigold, cornflower and poppy seeds, some of which we will use in the garden next year and some of which we will sell. Adult helpers also put the end of chippings down in the infant playground which will hopefully make it a bit less muddy this winter.

Gardening Gang Week beginning the 6th October 2017

Apologies School Blog has been updated so here is all the news  we missed from the Gardening Gang. They have been very busy!

Gardening gang adults shifted 68 wheelbarrows full of wood chips on Friday morning! The chips were delivered – free of charge! – from The Skye Man Tree Services into the car park on Friday and we moved them to around the raised veg beds. The area looks so much better and will also hopefully stop the weeds from springing up and creating the jungle that appeared over the summer. The pirate ship also got a layer and maintenance of the cordons continued. We now have a Facebook messenger group for gardening gang – email me at vickers.judy@yahoo.co.uk if you’d like to be included and I’ll attempt to add you. Never any obligation to come. Gardening gang meets on a Friday morning, after the bell until around 10.30am.

Week Beginning the 30th October

We had a spooky start to our week this week when everyone cam dressed up for Halloween on Monday and we had a Halloween parade.

  • On Monday afternoon we went over to Linlithgow Primary School to watch a show called ‘Up to Speed’ about a girl and a boy, Jade and Barnaby ,and what it’s like to be the odd one out. The show was very good and made us think about Children’s Rights and how we should treat everyone equally.
  • On Tuesday we were invited to St Kent’s to watch their amazing production of Les Mis. The show was fantastic and we were delighted to see that Niamh Mullholland and Ciara Fitzsimons had main parts. Their singing was out of this world. Michael Boyle performed with the orchestra. His trumpet playing was excellent. We think we have some budding stars of the future in P7. This show motivated us to work hard in music and drama.
  • In Literacy we completed our diaries on our journey on the Titanic.
  • In Maths we used symmetry to complete some tricky Halloween pictures
  • In Art we completed our Art Deco posters.
  • We enjoyed our All Saints Mass on Wednesday.
