This week we continued to harvest our apples (and pears) with P2, P3 and a group from P6 – we had such a bumper harvest that every child in the school has been given either an apple or a pear grown at St Joseph’s, plus we have lots of apples for our apple day next Friday.
And P7 threshed the wheat they had grown and harvested this week – the teaching assistants all very pleased it’s now disappeared from the hall windowsills and thanks to them for rescuing it during the storm when water was leaking in! I think the pupils enjoyed bashing it about in pillowcases to separate the grains from the stalks – bundle of straw going begging for anyone with a rabbit or other animal which could use it! Big thanks again to farmer Ian from Tranent who replaced the wheat we lost to disease and to the Royal Highland Education Trust for organising that and bringing the wheat to the school.
