Big Garden Birdwatch

Hi Everyone

Each year the RSPB asks everyone in the country to carry out a Birdwatch on their garden for one hour. This years  surveys is planned for this weekend 29th to 31st January. All you need to do is spend an hour at sometime over the weekend and count the number of birds you see and the type of birds you see. You then input your findings into the website. Your results and everyone else’s information is collated and shared later in Spring. Knowing how many birds there are and the types help the RSPB understand how well different bird species are doing.

Use the link below to sign up, it doesn’t cost anything, and you will find the identification sheets there too.

Outdoor Learning Challenge

Harrysmuir Primary has been involved with an initiative called ‘GreenGym’ for the last three years. Pupils in P6 carried out weekly activities outdoors, no matter the weather and had great fun.

To help keep children connecting with nature and to keep the Green Gym momentum up Alice from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) will be delivering a mini Green Gym!

The Green Gym is for West Lothian pupils, to help keep them active outdoors. Pupils who complete the 4 challenges will be sent a certificate via the school. Alice recommends that parents join the session so they know what they are signing up for, and asks that pupils head out with an adult to complete the tasks.

It is free to access and pupils require no resources to take part. Just click the link below to join.

Mr Wallace & Mrs Fairley’s Challenges

Hello everyone! We are missing seeing you all in school but can see how hard you are all working at home, keep it up!

Each week, Mr Wallace and Mrs Fairley are going to set you some challenges that you can work on if you have any free time (e.g. if you’ve finished your tasks from your teacher).

We hope you enjoy completing these challenges; we will introduce them at our assemblies on Fridays and post the information on Teams, Seesaw, Twitter and our Blog. We would love it if you share photos/videos/emails of challenges you complete so please email them to the school office (wlharrysmuir-ps@westlothian.org.uk) or post them on any of our online platforms.

Have fun! #TeamHarrysmuir

P2/1 and P1 Mental Maths- Counting

This can also be found on Seesaw, if you are already using this.

Good Morning boys and girls,

I hope you enjoyed some of the snow yesterday.  ❄⛄⛄  This morning we are going to be doing some Mental Maths.  I know you have been counting forwards and backwards from 0-20, so we are going to be doing some more.

  1.  Can you complete the missing numbers? write down the grid.  You can choose to do the grid up to 20 or the aeroplanes up to 10.

  1. Count from 0- 20  or 0-10 out loud, with an adult.  Try to do this without looking at your grid.

3.  Can you count backwards from 20 -0 0r 10 – 0? Work with an adult .  Did you manage to do this without looking at the grid?

   4. Play , “Guess the number”.  The adult picks a number between 0 and 20 or 0 and 10 and you have to guess what it is.  eg  The adult picks 12. You guess 8 and your adult says , “a bigger number.” You guess 10 and your adult says, “a bigger number.” You guess 14 and your adult says, “a smaller number.” You guess 12!👏

Have fun!😊😊

P2/1 and P1 -RME People who help us outside of school

Hello boys and girls!   Today we are going to think about people who help us outside of school.  A lot of these people have been very important to all of us during this difficult time with the Covid 19 virus.

Learning Intention:- We are developing an understanding of people who help us and what they do.

Step 1-:-  Talk to someone in your house and tell them all of the people you can think of that help you outside of school.  Write them down.  Did you think of, police, fire fighters, doctors, nurses and dentists?

Think about how we recognise them. Maybe they wear uniforms or drive special vehicles.

Think about the things these people do to help us.

Step 2:- Look at the power point or pdf document that will show you people who help us and what they do.  There might be some people that you didn’t think about.

P2-1 and P1 people who help us information.  OR  P2-1 and P1 people who help us information.

who else did you see?

Step 3:- Here is a little quiz. You need to try to guess who the people are from the clues.  The answers are at the end.  Have fun!😊

P2-1 and P1 People who help us quiz  OR    P2-1 and P1 People who help us quiz

Step 4:-  You can have a bit of fun with someone in your house by miming out somethings these special people might do and see if the person working with you can guess who they are.
