Variations of I Spy!
- Play I Spy the usual way – use the initial sound though, not the alphabet letter name! (See the RWI video in the next post for an example of the sounds.)
- Got younger children in the mix? Include them by using the colour when it’s their turn – I spy with my little eye, something that is orange!
- Lots of P.2 children have been learning consonant digraphs – sh, ch, th, wh. Try playing I Spy using these sounds. You could even try writing the word down to keep a tally of who’s winning! Remember to use your Fred Fingers to sound out your words if you’re writing them down boys and girls.
- Rhyming – In stead of I Spy With My Little Eye, try I Hear With My Little Ear, something that rhymes with jam! The adult should take the lead to begin with, and the children think of a rhyming word. Once they’ve got the hang of it, let the children take turns at starting off.
